US to double international food aid: Obama
Apr 2 01:11 PM US/Eastern

President Barack Obama announced Thursday that US food and agriculture aid to Africa, Latin America and other poor regions would double to more than one billion dollars because of the economic crisis.

Obama said that he would start work with Congress in the coming days to give 448 million dollars in immediate assistance to vulnerable populations -- such as those in Africa and Latin America.

He added that he aimed to "double support for agricultural development to over one billion dollars so that we are giving people the tools they need to lift themselves out of poverty".

4. Talk about highjacking a thread.
Shame on you when people are truly starving. All you care about is stupid fashion and appearances.

likewise start cutting military aid to regimes like Israel and Pakistan (not to mention Saudi Arabia, Egypt, etc)...

It doesn't matter if we throw food around and yet at the same time continue to fund war and destruction at the same time, either directly by invasion or occupation or indirectly by despotic proxy states.

9. Reform US practices too
US aid is highly conditional on neo-liberal reforms and deregulation of developing nations' markets. This has forced communities into poverty despite the amount of aid. You can increase food aid, but your fixed conditions will cancel out the objectives.

14. I'd prefer a set of links to prove your statements -
last time I looked Bush had all that faith based bullshit tied up in aid of just about any kind.

Neoliberal my ass.
