McCain has a meltdown with Hispanics, "You people made your choice!"
Ooooh. Me thinks all the raving coverage of President Obama's trip abroad has triggered a John McCain meltdown! "You people?"

McCain Rebukes Hispanic Voters
Stung over the voting bloc's 2-to-1 support of Obama in November, the senator says to look to the new president for immigration leadership
by Kirk Victor

Saturday, April 4, 2009

John McCain sounds angry and frustrated that, despite the risks he took in pushing immigration reform, Hispanic voters flocked to Democrat Barack Obama in last year's presidential contest. McCain's raw emotions burst forth recently as he heatedly told Hispanic business leaders that they should now look to Obama, not him, to take the lead on immigration.

The meeting in the Capitol's Strom Thurmond Room on March 11 was a Republican effort led by Sens. McCain of Arizona, John Thune of South Dakota, and Mel Martinez of Florida to reach out to Hispanics. But two people who attended the session say they were taken aback by McCain's anger.

What began as a collegial airing of views abruptly changed when McCain spoke about immigration, according to these sources, who asked not to be identified for fear of retribution. Anonymity was also requested by a third source, who was not at the meeting but was told, independently of the other two, that McCain had displayed his notorious temper.

"He was angry," one source said. "He was over the top. In some cases, he rolled his eyes a lot. There were portions of the meeting where he was just staring at the ceiling, and he wasn't even listening to us. We came out of the meeting really upset."

McCain's message was obvious, the source continued: After bucking his party on immigration, he had no sympathy for Hispanics who are dissatisfied with President Obama's pace on the issue. "He threw out 'You people -- you people made your choice. You made your choice during the election,' " the source said. "It was almost as if 'You're cut off!' We felt very uncomfortable when we walked away from the meeting because of that."

29. Crazy angry old dude... he HAD a chance to be president, but he did not take it
He "could" have won in 1996.. Clinton was not all that strong, but good repube that he was, he stepped aside because it was BobDole's "turn"..

republicans do crazy stuff.. they either cling to the hierarchy and resort to the "turn" mechanism, or every once in a while they go crazy and hook up with a looneytune outsider like Reagan or Bush, the lesser..

I think HE thought he would be embraced in 2000, and was again pushed aside. He's bitter & angry at his own party and at himself.. He's tried everything he can think of to BE president, and gets rebuffed at every turn..time for hinm to retire to obscurity & live off his rich wife..

poor choice of words. They are words often used when someone really wants to say something else. Something like: "You Jews","You blacks", "You ________".

"Rolled his eyes" and "staring at the ceiling" - sounds like the third debate.

21. That's Johnny for ya.
His temper is legendary. I'm surprised that these sorts of anecdotes didn't come out during the campaign. He either had a good PR machine working, or he managed to "keep a lid on it."

But this isn't anything amazing, "different," out-of-character, or surprising.

And I wouldn't read too much (at least, racially speaking) into the "you people." He's a grouper--there's "you people" over here, and "you people" over there, but generally "you people" aren't with "his people." And indeed, he's "cut them off." I think he feels betrayed.

In 2006 and 2007, McCain was a leader on immigration, but his efforts ran aground largely because his legislation included what many Republicans derisively characterized as "amnesty," a pathway to citizenship for the nation's estimated 12 million illegal immigrants if they took a series of steps to earn legal status.

Having stuck his neck out in the past, McCain apparently is in no mood to do so again for an ethnic group he seems to view as ungrateful. On NBC's Meet the Press on March 29, McCain repeated his message that the ball is in the Democratic president's court. So far, the senator said, he has not seen much on immigration from the Obama White House, although the president recently met with the Congressional Hispanic Caucus and set the goal of launching the debate in the fall, a senior administration official said.

....McCain has become irate over immigration legislation before. During negotiations over a bill two years ago, he was so enraged by the comments of Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, that he got in Cornyn's face and said, "F-- you!"

It's all a bit silly, actually. Certainly upsetting to those who haven't ever seen Johnny on a bad day, but, as I said, unsurprising to those who have.

He can blow his top over a misplaced pen or bad traffic. I think he is one of those people who needs to let off steam periodically, and woe to those near him when he feels the need.

Probably a good thing he wasn't elected President, eh?

37. That's a good observation
Demographic trends say that eventually, Hispanic and other minorities will outnumber whites in a few decades, if the current trend continues.

And if Republicans are viewed as being unsympathetic to minorities (soon to be the majority), then they're going the way of the Dodo.

Maybe the Republican party should adopt this image as their new logo:

The conventional wisdom was that the only Arizona Democrat who had a shot at beating McCain was Napolitano. With her move to Homeland Security, and the assumption that she won't abandon that job to run for the Senate, McCain is thought to be pretty safe.

The only real hope for getting rid of him is that he decides to retire, which is not impossible.

I posted during the elections several times on McCains' temper and his great lack of anger management as well as several manifestetions of his vengeful personality and childish tantrums.

He would have been one hell of a President, with armies and nuclear weapons to play with, and Smart Sarah as a backup....
