Time articles sure seem to be trying to paint Obama in a negative light:
UPDATE: At a town hall this afternoon in Strasbourg, France, Obama made his campaign pitch to the entire world. "America is changing," he said, in prepared remarks read off a teleprompter.

http://swampland.blogs.time.com/2009/04/03/obamas-new-global-vision-its-beginning-to-happen/?xid=feed-yahoo-full-world-related

The United States is still the same country it was a year ago, give or take about 6 million jobs. But its international branding campaign, as led by the new President, Barack Obama, is so different that the rest of the world might be forgiven if it has to do a double take.

Most of the hallmarks of the foreign policy of George W. Bush are gone. The old conservative idea of "American exceptionalism," which placed the U.S. on a plane above the rest of the world as a unique beacon of democracy and financial might, has been rejected. At almost every stop, Obama has made clear that the U.S. is but one actor in a global community. Talk of American economic supremacy has been replaced by a call from Obama for more growth in developing countries. Claims of American military supremacy have been replaced with heavy emphasis on cooperation and diplomatic hard labor. (Read "Obama in Europe: Facing Four Big Challenges.")

<snip>

At a town hall in Strasbourg, France, Obama stood before an audience of mostly French and German youth and admitted that the U.S. should have a greater respect for Europe. "In America, there's a failure to appreciate Europe's leading role in the world," he said before offering other European critical views of his country. "There have been times where America has shown arrogance and been dismissive, even derisive."

The contrast is striking. Only four years ago, George W. Bush, in his second Inaugural Address, described what he called America's "considerable" influence, saying, "We will use it confidently in freedom's cause." Bush's vision of American power was combative and aggressive. He said the U.S. would "seek and support the growth of democratic movements and institutions in every nation and culture." He continued, "We go forward with complete confidence in the eventual triumph of freedom."

They just HAD to mention the teleprompter. They also left out all the criticism he had for EUROPE, making it sound like "everything's our fault." Anyone who saw the town hall knows he had tough words for Europe which immediately followed his criticism of our own country. Then to top it all off by pretending Bush really had noble goals. :eyes:

7. The newspapers are right wing spinners....and they live, eat, and
breathe fox news. I had a lady stop talking to me during the school year because I couldn't take her shrub love. How can anyone still think he was a good president? Hopeless. I just want out!

16. Yup. I think people got sick of it and saw Obama was not the person the media was making him
out to be. The pastorbation MAY have been what made many people SUPPORT him. They saw him for who he was rather than who the media was making him out to be.

18. Time should retract their entire article. Especially after he was asked directly
if he believes in American exceptionalism and he said yes, just as he's sure England believes in English exceptionalism and Greece believes in Greek exceptionalism. He also went on to talk about how proud he is of America, refuting everything the RW hack wrote in the articles in my OP. The difference between him and Bush is that he also respects OTHER countries and THEIR right to feel the same about THEIR countries and also that he's willing to work with other countries rather than being so arrogant as to want to go it alone.

19. I don't agree with your interpretation of this and don't find anything
they wrote about as necessarily reflecting negatively on Obama.

Your highlighting and analysis make no sense. The article is comparing and contrasting the difference in tone of the two men.

And the fact that you find this piece of commentary:

"Bush's vision of American power was combative and aggressive." as them characterizing Bush as "noble" is utterly confounding.

Maybe it's just that you wanted to see it as negative?

20. See my post right above yours...
and yes, some things written DID portray Bush negatively, but the article clearly, as a whole, tried to paint Obama as someone who didn't think our country is a great country and who was "appeasing" Europe. And why did they have to throw in the RW teleprompter line?

21. I agree, it's a terrible article, filled with innuendo and snarky comments
If this kind of highly critical article had appeared just after 9/11 about Bush, (using a teleprompter in the Oval Office), or about Cheney in 2003, ("we know where the WMD's are") people would have been indignant to Time for doing so.

It's trash reporting, highly opinionated, and should be retracted.
