FUCK YOU REPUBLICAN FOX NEWS FEAR SPREADING MOTHER FUCKERS!
PITTSBURGH - A gunman wearing a bulletproof vest and “lying in wait” opened fire on officers responding to a domestic disturbance call Saturday, killing three of them and turning a quiet Pittsburgh street into a battlefield, police said.

Police Chief Nate Harper said the motive for the shooting isn’t clear, but friends said the gunman recently had been upset about losing his job and feared the Obama administration was poised to ban guns.

5. Gun owners have legitimate reasons to be concerned with increasing restrictions
It is, after all, part of our party platform. Again.

However no bill passed or even proposed would simply ban certain firearms and demand immediate confiscation, like they did in the UK and Australia. While the anti-gun forces have the ultimate goal of UK-style gun laws and gun ownership, theirs in an incremental process.

7. But gun owners then wonder why non owners are kinda scared of them.

"As long as you guys don't pass anti-gun legislation, you're OK. But if you do, YOU'RE DEAD MEAT!"

The "cold, dead hands" rhetoric isn't helping their case that most gun owners are mature, responsible, sane people.

11. Well, what it comes down to is this:
If you continually challange a person on why they do something, they get irritated. They get irritated at the continual challanged, and they get irritated because you're forcing them do defend what they are doing to the point that the challenged person starts to sound paranoid.

I mean, nobody here (I think) uses the probability having a fatal car crash as a reason to challenge people that wear safety belts. People don't call seatbelt-wearers paranoid, or insinuate that they're secretly hoping to live out their "Dukes of Hazzard" fantasies by buckling up.

Or people that keep fire extinguishers, or people that lock up their houses every night... I mean, make a list.

However, the anti-gun forces began producing a lot of fear-mongering bullshit to advance their agenda, then get all surprised when people push back. Ultimately, nobody is trying to use the law to require them to own guns.

17. So this guy was pushing back, eh?
I know you don't really mean that, but the man certainly didn't make a very compelling case for his cause.
The thing is, gun control wasn't really discussed much in the general election except by people "producing a lot of fear-mongering bullshit" about Obama's secret plans to take away everyone's guns.

I know in past elections the bullshit has come from the anti-gun side
This time, I didn't see it.

When a guy puts on body armour and kills 4 innocent police officers over unsubstantiated political rumors, I would call that person "paranoid".

24. And I agree, he was paranoid
Driven by excessive fear-mongoring on the side of the right. Too much Kool-Aide, not enough common sense. And a strong feeling of desperation and hopelessness.

While the goal of the anti-gun movement is the effective elimnation of non-police, non-military firearms, their approach is incremental. The corporatists took decades to get what they want and they have a hell of a lot more power than the anti-gun movement.

What you have to understand, however, is that pretty much every single Republican power-broker, lobbyist, supporter, and politician wants the Democrats to pass gun control. The political backlash and media fodder would be substantial in the 2010 and/or 2012 elections. This is why I believe the reich-wing keeps pushing the issue.

Now you know that no Republicans would vote for a gun-control bill, but I would not put it past any of them to secretly fund 527 groups and other political, lobbying, and think-tank organizations to push the Democrats into passing something stupid like a renewal of the AWB.

I hadn't heard it was 4... dammit. :-(

21. Your first paragraph--that just doesn't sound like rational behavior.
Smokers, for instance, are continually challenged by society and legislation on why they smoke. They get pissed, sure--but they generally don't go out and gun down the local bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms. Same with people who don't use seatbelts.

I can't be held accountable by the paranoia of others--and what bothers me is that the paranoid among us are excused for killing others when no one is trying to kill them. We're trying to prevent THEM from killing others indiscriminately, like this one did! They're doing nothing to reinforce the idea that we are safe from lunatics such as the one in Pittsburgh.

26. The smokers don't have reich-wing radio egging them on...
...and smoking isn't an enumerated constitional right. And banning tobacco isn't seen as hallmark of a tolitarian state.

I wasn't expecting seatbelt-wearers to "push back"; I was just pointing out that if you were to constantly point out that on any given day the odds of a person being in an accident are infitesimal, if you constantly quoted news reports of people that would have survived a car accident if they hadn't been buckled in, if you constantly made the claim with "research" to back it up that seat belts made people drive more recklessly because they feel safer while wearing them... you could make the seatbelt-wearers look like a bunch of safety-obsessed paranoids whos actions are a net detriment to society.

We're trying to prevent THEM from killing others indiscriminately, like this one did!

Exactly. But it's not a hardware-control problem, it's a social and economic one.

Let me put it this way; if the Democrats are going to go down in flames in the 2010 midterm and/or the 2012 election, I'd rather it was for something that will actually address the social and economic issues, like drug legalization, universal single-payer health care, or withdrawing from NAFTA and GATT and putting some reasonable trade policies in place again.

4. Classic case of unintended consequences
In his particular case, his personal guns stood a good chance of being confiscated as a result of the domestic disturbance. If his wife/girlfriend showed signs of abuse, he's be off to jail and an appearance before a judge, and the potential for a restraining order and gun confiscation was pretty strong.

So, he decides to fight it out... and in doing so makes the case for anti-gun forces to drool over.

The murderous dumbass.

It's a plank in our damn platform that should have been stripped out last summer.

10. I was channel surfing today
Glen Beck's show was on Fux News. He was showing footage of Nazi rallies. He said that people hated Bush, so they voted for Obama. He was implying that now we're going to find Obama is the opposite extreme. Obama is Hitler was the implication, I guess?! I stopped watching, I just couldn't believe what I was seeing. It was like a crazy Obama = Bush = Socialist = Nazi argument I guess.

16. Three police officers is a drop in the bucket of the blood spilled by Fox "News."
If you include the illegal invasion of Iraq, for example.

And the list goes on.

Why would anyone listen to Fox "News" when they say Obama wants to come for your guns?

Weren't they wrong about the herpes/beer-pong threat?

Remember when broadcasters used to have to serve the public interest?
