Libya's Gaddafi says he fears Obama assassination
Edited on Tue Apr-07-09 05:26 PM by Thrill
SIRTE, Libya (Reuters) - Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi Tuesday called Barack Obama a "flicker of hope in the middle of the imperialist darkness," but said he feared the president could be assassinated.

Gaddafi, known for his controversial statements, did not say who might want to kill Obama but gave the examples of the assassinations of Presidents John F. Kennedy and Abraham Lincoln, as well as black rights leader Martin Luther King.

"I fear that they could liquidate this young man or force him to submit to their imperialist policies," Gaddafi told a university gathering of his supporters in Sirte, without specifying who might put Obama under pressure.

"Obama is a flicker of hope in the middle of the imperialist darkness," the Libyan leader said, adding: "There is a fear that they would liquidate him as they liquidated Kennedy, Martin Luther King and Abraham Lincoln."

Gaddafi, who is the African Union chairman, had offered to work with Obama to sustain security, stability and prosperity in Africa and elsewhere.

Gaddafi praised Obama for breaking with what he said was the previous American foreign policy that dictated to the rest of the world what to do to serve U.S. interests.

"He (Obama) speaks logically. Arrogance no longer exists in the American approach which was previously based on dictating to the rest of the world in order to meet its own conditions," Gaddafi said in the remarks carried by state media.

8. I agree... I am worried.
I hear that ammunition is sold out at stores around the country because these nuts, including Bachman of MN have called for revolution and have said that Obama is "going to take your guns". When you have Gaffney on Shuster last night stating the Obama is "talking in code" to the muslims and Cheney saying that he has made us less safe and god forbid, Glen Beck and Hannity, I really fear for his safety and the safety of his family.

Its over the line and far far worse than it as when Clinton was in. Those who have power in the US and in some parts of the world feel threatened by this man. I hope that the secret service is extra vigilant!

16. Sadly, I think he is more at risk from the extreme RW of our
country, than he is from most of the factions overseas... and that is saying alot. I hope even agnostics will join in a prayer for him.... It certainly can't hurt.

With that said, I still don't like you, Muammar Gaddafi.

11. I agree with him. I fear for him the more he accomplishes.
The stuff coming out of the RW world is amazingly crazy, off kiltered, and angry. It is not okay. They are creating or sustaining a bad environment.

The Middle East has just as much at stake as we do in keeping Obama alive and healthy. Has the peace process moved substantially forward since Carter?

Clinton was supposed to be the Democratic answer for Carter. The country hasn't seen his sort in 60 years. Our fear can't be what pushes us forward, but I believe strongly we have to put out these Bachman type fires around the country wherever we hear them.

a heavy responsibility and statements like this brings it to light.

May the force of goodness protect our Presidents from rabid idiots who have nothing in their lives but hate.

13. Bizarro World - Right Wingers Threatening The President and Foreigners Praying For His Safety
News Corp should be held accountable for its effort to incite violence. President Eisenhauer talked about the power of the military industrial complex, and listening to the rantings of folks like Senator James Inofe, you start to see how close we came to fascism under Dubya.

17. I fear it much more now than I ever did.
There's this feeling at the pit of my stomach. He seems to be changing enough shit to where he is making plenty of enemies. Perhaps that's why he's not giving up the wiretapping shit. Perhaps he needs it to stay alive (well that's no excuse, so I wrote to the White House about the wiretapping).....still feel uneasy.

And should the unthinkable happen, I'm confident that Vice President Biden will step in and continue doing what the President Obama was doing.
