Here's what I said:

Congratulations Governor...

...on going down in history as the Orval Faubus of 2009. You'll be best known as that governor who got his veto of marriage equality overridden.

1. Is it illegal to say "fuckyou" to an elected representative?
Notwithstanding the glorious "Go fuck yourself, Mr. Cheney" episode.

2. Romney would have if he had had the opportunity. Jody Rell would probably have as well.
The veto was overruled and it is what matters.

3. here is the message I sent:
Dear Governor Douglas:

Your tenure as governor of this great state is drawing to a close. Vermonters finally see through your cynicism and manipulation. All the glad handing and ribbon cutting in the world won't save you. You are out of step with the majority of Vermonters who support equality for all our state's citizens.

When I spoke to you last month at the Burlington Flower Show, I asked you to let the majority vote that was surely coming in the legislator to stand, deferring to the will of the people. You refused to respect the legislature and the people.

It's clear that the ONLY reason you vetoed marriage equality is to gain far right support and money from out of state. You knew, and hoped, that there would likely be an override of your veto and that Vermonters will forget your obstruction of civil rights next year when you're up for re-election. We won't forget.

The sun is setting on your political career. Your legacy will be a sad one.

Sincerely,

xxxxx

The Northeast Kingdom, VT
