"No president in the past 40 years has done more to polarize America so much, so quickly."
Edited on Thu Apr-09-09 08:06 AM by Jackeens
Karl Rove in the Wall Street Journal. You couldn't make it up.

Excerpts:

"Mr. Obama has hastened the decline of Republican support with petty attacks on his critics and predecessor. For a person who promised hope and civility in politics, Mr. Obama has shown a borderline obsessiveness in blaming Mr. Bush. Starting with his inaugural address and continuing through this week's overseas trip, the new president's jabs at Mr. Bush have been unceasing, unfair and unhelpful. They have also diminished Mr. Obama by showing him to be another conventional politician. Rather than ending 'the blame game,' he is personifying it."

"We don't yet know the price Democrats will pay for Mr. Obama's fiscal radicalism. But we do know that no presidential hopeful in our lifetime has made bipartisanship more central to his candidacy and few presidents have devoted as many eloquent words to its importance. Yet no president in the past 40 years has done more to polarize America so much, so quickly. Mr. Obama has not come close to living up to his own standards. It took him less than 11 weeks to achieve the very opposite of what he promised. That, in its own regrettable way, is quite an achievement."

Full thing (but bring a bucket):

plus Obama's more liberal than that wildman Kerrey, so he's bound to divide America. I think that's probably it, or something.

"No president in the past 40 years has done more to polarize America so much, so quickly", is actually your deep depression that is eating out your guts because your party has lost so badly in recent elections, and it's ALL THE FAULT of you, Dickless Cheney and Chimpy's 8 years of incompetent leadership.

You see Karl, even with access to the powerful military machine on the planet, and the largest most covert intelligence agencies on the planet, Chimpy couldn't even keep the country safe. He didn't believe the warnings, because clearing brush photo ops were more important.

19. Help Me Here.....
if I knew the most powerful man in the world (Obama) potentially held my future in his hand why would I so blatantly attack him?

Surely KKKarl Rove is smarter than this. He knows that he probably broke every rule in the book over the past 8 years and then some. Dick Cheney as well. Treasonous bastards both of them - their boss included (but he is laying low - I guess he's smarter than we thought).

They must know that with the Obama administrations access now that all kinds of potential evidence could be found to put these two away for a long time.

Seems to me if I were them - I'd want to lay low and just drop off the face of the earth and not be heard from again. You know - out of sight - out of mind. And maybe - just maybe - Obama would get on to other things and just let this whole thing fade away.

But why are these guys out there leading with their chins? Why are they taking every chance they have to criticize and dump on Obama. Are they daring him to take action against them?

It just doesn't make sense to me.

I'm almost thinking that Bush made a deal with Obama. I'll give you Cheney and Rove - if you let me skate.

Is Bush prodding Cheney and Rove to help him on his legacy - just to make them targets? Any other theories? Or are these guys just ego-manical and like to live dangerously?

29. Rove has managed
to avoid testifying before Congress by just ignoring subpoenas. It's worked for quite a while so I don't doubt that he believes it will continue to work.

Rove has a level of hubris and arrogance that is unparalleled. I can only hope that it will be the downfall of him very very soon.

20. What the article fails to mention...
Funny how hardly anyone is pointing out that the GOP is also much smaller than it was this time last year. A fat chunk of their membership became independents around the time McCain was nominated, and more jumped ship when he chose Mooseburger Barbie as his running mate. The country isn't "polarized". The republican party is just becoming more and more marginalized.

Edited on Thu Apr-09-09 10:04 AM by high density
As for the laughable "Blame Bush" complaints, I don't see how that fits Obama. At every turn Obama explains how we need to move forward instead of dwelling on the past. Maybe Rove should spend more time trying to improve the brand of his party instead of still insisting that Democrats and Obama are out of the "mainstream." You can't get much more mainstream than 66% approval, which is something Bush could only capture as a "war president."

I've heard this from other GOP talking heads in the past week. They sure do stay on message, even if it's the most laughable one they've come up with of lately.

How can a POTUS with 69% approval be the most polarizing ever?
