He has stated President Obama may speak there, but he will not be awarded an honorary degree. I told President Crow he is anti-American and stated
"Fuck you". The page with his contact is here

http://president.asu.edu/contact

Please let Mr. Crow know how you feel about his decision, as well as his recent decision to ignore MLK day.

Thanks.

Mr Crow is an asshole, and he should be told so in no uncertain terms.

Besides, I am old enough to be as immature as I please.

5. Barnicle, on Hardball, said they are "reconsidering" the situation...
to me, that says that a degree will be conferred.

Personally, I've always found "Honorary Degrees" a bit of a farce. I know a few Ph D's, have one in my own family, and they worked like hell to get the degree...I see no reason to hand them out. That's just me though, I don't have a heavy handed degree, just an AAS. If I ever do get a PhD, or Masters for that matter, I'm going to have to work my butt off to get it...:hi:

has earned his own. But, why invite the Prez to speak at Commencement and then say he doesn't have a body of work worthy of the traditional honorary degree? It almost sounds like stupid recon tricks.

31. It does show a remarkable lack of insight on the part of the
Directors.

Obama has crossed many hurdles, and his past is filled with challenges he has overcome. As a Law professor alone, he has passed many of what those on the Board of Directors has done. Add Senator and President...he leaves them light years behind.

Personally, I think it's because he's a D, and the people of AZ did not overwhelmingly vote for him. I lived in AZ for several years, change comes very hard for them. Now I am in NE, and in some cases here, it's almost like the 19th Century...:eyes:

Nobody is going to give me for a job because of my "honorary degree". It's just a symbolic thing and I don't see how it diminishes the work done by people who earn real degrees.

I certainly don't want people to agree w/me 100%.

I do recall Bill Cosby getting an Honorary Doctrate years ago, and some people called him Dr. Cosby. I haven't heard that in a long time, but there are times when I have to wonder.

Neil deGrasse Tyson has a PhD in astrophysics, as does my cousin, I'll call both of them Dr. if that is how they want to be addressed...but I'd rather call them Neil and Terry...:)

8. Done. And I was not very nice.
Dear Jim Crow,

President Obama graduated at the top of his class in Harvard Law School, where he became the first African American President of the Harvard Law Review, and you do not believe he has enough credentials to receive an honorary degree from ASU? You've got to be kidding me? Is this some kind of sick, racist joke? He earned a REAL HARVARD LAW DEGREE and managed to get legitimately elected to the US Senate, and then, 4 short years later, to the highest office in the land, and some low-end University from the diverse (haha) state of Arizona is refusing to honor our President with a degree? If that's the case, I wouldn't wipe my ass with an "honorary" degree from ASU. It sounds like Arizona quite possibly may be the Mississippi of the Southwest. You, Mr. Crow, aren't even close to being the accomplished human being President Obama is. As a matter of fact, you appear to be a small-minded, self-important, pompous ass.

My email:

President Crow,

The President of the United States was generous with his time, and very gracious to agree to give the commencement address at your university. In return Arizona State University made an extremely poor decision to disrespect not only the man, but the office he holds by refusing to grant him an honorary degree.

Shame on you!

17. As a 1979 graduate of ASU, I'm mad as hell
They have been calling me a couple times a week asking me to donate, as I have done in the past, to the College of Liberal Arts. I can't wait to get this week's call so I can give them an earful to pass on to the lunatics in charge. Yes, I understand the committees are separate, but this is incredibly idiotic. What they don't seem to understand is that President Obama's appearance at their commencement is (or should be) a source of pride and prestige. Instead, by their shortsighted--or outright republican--political position, they look like fools.

13. I spoke to my daughter about this earlier this morning.
She just sent me a copy of the email that she wrote and sent to the Arizona State University President!

Dear Mr. Crow,

It was quite interesting to find out that your institution, Arizona State University, found it fit just a couple of years ago to bestow an Honorary Degree to Wu Qidi, vice minister of education of the People's Republic of China. I am dismayed, however, that you have determined that the Current President of the United States doesn't qualify for the same ASU honor.

How I wish that President Obama had been invited to speak at our school instead of yours! I am a senior at Harvard College graduating this June.

That said, my husband (an '07 Harvard Alumni) and I have decided that our future children will never, ever consider attending your institution. In addition, we will both make sure to burst out in uncontrollable laughter anytime we hear mention of your name, or the name of the institution you represent.

You sir, are a true embarrassment to this country.

God Bless America, and God Bless the President of the United States.

Sincerely,

("that's my baby!" :bounce: )
