The truth, and everyone knows it: The political right wanted Captain Phillips to die
Read the threads over at FR the past week (and other right-wing sites).

They were anxiously awaiting for a rescue mission to fail... and that the captain would be killed in the mishap. Or worse yet, American servicemen.

That's what they openly wished for.

There were threads talking about the aborted mission in 1980 to rescue the Iran hostages...talking about this pirate situation being to Obama what that was to Carter.

There were threads about how Obama wasn't being tough on the pirates because they're "muslims like him".

This goes beyond Rush Limbaugh's "wanting him to fail". They wanted Captain Phillips and, as a bonus, US servicemen to die in order to advance their political agenda.

They're ghouls. They're the worst of the worst.

They're not even up to the level of "traitors".

They THINK they love America... but they really don't. They love a right-wing, nationalistic, WHITE America that only exists in their minds.

Obama's ratings will jump over this. And it will make the right even more apoplectic. Watch your back, and don't tailgate too close to pickup trucks with NRA stickers. The next Richard Poplawski could be about to go over the edge.

2. "They". are committed to Obama failing, they pray for it, hope for it
no matter what the cost involved. It could be the countrys economic health or the death of the captain, their politics are more important to them than any thing else.

All they want to do is say

I Told You So

5. Yes They Did
They wanted to see a man who was doing his job die and they wanted to see American servicemen and women die and they wanted to see the pirates die and they if the US managed to kill anybody else in Somalia, well that was just going to be icing on the cake.

They can all take a flying fuck at the moon!

38. And they'll look you square in the eye and call themselves "pro-life"
or the "party of life" and on days when they've got Super-Duper Chutzpah, "the party of G'd" without so much as a flinch. (By the way, if you want to see their heads really explode, drop the dime that that's also the translation for hezb'ullah. Heh.) You have to wonder what kind of severance there has to be between brain and stem for them to be able to lie to themselves like that and still live. Now that is some industrial-strength, super-duty, goes-the-extra-mile batshit they've got going on over there on the right.

12. Yikes! But I believe you...
I totally cannot understand how the RW can wish for Obama to "fail" or for more Americans to die, off the Somali Coast, in Iraq, in Afghanistan, anywhere. What baffles me is that if Obama were to fail, this wouldn't just affect Democrats, but Republicans, Libertarians, Baptists, Hindus, everybody in this whole damn country. We're all in this together. If the country is in trouble, it affects every single citizen, regardless of affiliation or belief. Doesn't that dawn on them? It totally boggles the mind...

15. They're always looking for equivalence
They needed to impeach Clinton because Nixon had been the target of an impeachment effort -- but Clinton, unlike Nixon, saw no reason to resign, which drove them nuts.

Now they want Obama to fail because Bush failed miserably. They want more Americans to die on Obama's watch than died on 9/11.

The truth is, Republicans know in their heart of hearts that they suck -- and rather than trying to figure out how they can not suck, all they do is hope for something to come up that will prove that Democrats suck even worse.

Ain't gonna happen, of course. Whether in good times or bad, Democrats will *never* suck like Republicans because they actually care about doing their jobs. But Republicans are incapable of believing that, so all they can do is pray for suckitude.

25. This "American Thinker" article proves your point
Edited on Mon Apr-13-09 06:46 AM by Hokie
You are completely correct. Read this article and the comments on "American Thinker" by James Lewis.

http://www.americanthinker.com/2009/04/let_us_thank_the_somali_pirate.html

Let us thank the Somali pirates

Flashback: It's 1979, and President Jimmy Carter is facing a hostage crisis, with American diplomats being kidnapped by Islamist "students" in Tehran. Ayatollah Khomeini overthrew our Cold War ally, the Shah of Iran, with the tacit of the Carter Administration, because it thought of the murderous Ayatollah as "some kind of saint," in the words of former Atlanta mayor Andrew Young.

Jimmy and Zbig have been trying to explain their disastrous ignorance ever since; and because they are mentally stuck in appeasement thinking, they have infected the Obamanites with the same plague bacilli.

Flashforward to 2009, and an American merchant marine captain is being held hostage by Islamist pirates off the coast of Somalia. It's a repeat of 1979, and the world is watching to see if Obama is going to be any more effective than Jimmy Carter was.

Obama may think this is a "distraction". The rest of the world sees it as a test. And so, far Obama is flunking. The world will draw its own conclusions very quickly

Thank heavens for the pirates! Why? Because we must know as soon as possible if the Obamanites are as incompetent and foolish as they proudly claim to be -- or whether they can summon up the guts to try to rescue the captain. We have plenty of special ops forces who are trained for hostage rescue. The West has forty years of experience in knocking over hostage takers, as Israelis did in Entebbe. But similar methods have been perfected by now, as shown most recently in Colombia, where US forces advised the Colombian government how to deal with another hostage situation.

Edited on Mon Apr-13-09 05:24 PM by AlbertCat
They keep bringing that up. Isn't that the one where Reagan Repugs made a deal with the terrorists to HOLD THE HOSTAGES LONGER so they could be released as Reagan took the oath? Y'know...made a back room deal with our enemies to cause more suffering to our citizens to get an advantage for themselves?

59. Absolutely correct......the race was close and Reagan/Bush made a deal
with the Khomeini government to hold the hostages until after the election. They were released minutes after the inauguration. Remember that it was Carter's fault because a sandstorm clogged some helicopter turbine intakes causing some of the choppers to crash. Did they give him credit for trying to mount a rescue? Nope...they cheered the disaster as proof of Carter's incompetence.

I really wish we had the internets in place 40 years ago...somehow I think our American history would be drastically different.

31. I don't need to check out those sites to know what you wrote is true -
I was at a gathering of friends from a historical reenactment group I belong to Saturday afternoon and heard some of the same garbage coming out of the mouths of people that I had heretofore liked and respected. I knew that several of them were dyed-in-the-wool Republicans, but to hear them saying that they had hoped any rescue efforts for Captain Phillips would fail and fail badly so that it would reflect back poorly on President Obama was a major shock. It upset me so much that I faked receiving a telephone call from work and left. I honestly don't know how I'm going to go forward with this group of people. Before this we had pretty much kept politics and political differences out of our relationships, so this was a major shock.

45. Just say something to them like
"So you'd rather have good people die so Obama looks bad, that's pretty fucked up." And then say something like "I think Obama is doing a great job at getting this country back on course his approval rating is extremely high with the majority of the country."

Eventually they'll shuck the fuck up and keep politics out of it. For every negative just say something positive and feel good about it.

Sure they did...in their "life is a TV show" minds, death is just a dramatic moment before the commercial...and at the end of the show, everyone is fine...even if the dead are still dead, the family & friends suffering from the death are either nonexistent or OK with everything. It just like TV, y'see.

These are the same people who think:

Teenagers don't have sex (even though they did as teenagers)
God takes care of everything (....eventually)
Sarah Palin is smart enough to run the USofA (but not know her daughter was having sex...because, see #1)
Everyone should be a Christian. (not like those Christians, like MY church!)
They make over 200,000 a year (so they will get a tax cut!)
The Teabaggers are gonna really shake things up!(It's a great way to protest!)
They are a majority. (see all of the above)

Newt, Beck, et al were busy spreading the "Obama failed' message this weekend...before the action was concluded. Of course they are betting against Obama and his success...if Obama succeeds, America succeeds and the GOP fails. It's always been Party before Country with these people and theirreaction to this mini-crisis reaffirms that.
