Breaking: Obama puppy nominee faces uphill battle in Senate

by Blank Frank

The nomination of Bo, the puppy tapped yesterday to be the Obama family pet, was called into question today as several GOP senators vowed to filibuster the animal's confirmation.

"The administration acknowledges that this is a Portuguese Water Dog," said Sen. James Inhofe (R-OK). "The American people have a right to know whether American water dogs were passed over in the administration's rush to install their chosen candidate. And was the dog born here, or in Portugal? I, for one, would like to see a birth certificate."

Other lawmakers were concerned about the creature's ideological bent. "This dog was a gift from Ted Kennedy," said Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-TX), referring to the notably liberal senior senator from Massachusetts. "You have to wonder whether he shares Kennedy's soft-on-squirrels philosophy." A spokesman for Kennedy admitted that the senator rarely chases squirrels.

"We just don't know enough about Bo," agreed Sen. Jon Kyl (R-AZ). "A water dog needs to have a clear idea about how its master should cross shallow bodies of water. But we have no indication of where Bo stands on the question of row versus wade."

While Republican lawmakers were divided on precisely why Bo was unsuitable for the position of First Pet, all agreed that the President's nomination of the dog must not be allowed to stand. "It's like a lot of things the Obama administrtion has tried to do," mused Sen. Jim Bunning (R-KY). "It's not so much the specifics of what's being done that are important as it is who's trying to do them. Whatever it is, if Obama is for it, I'm against it."

12. Do they want to mess with a Portuguese Water Dog?
He might be a puppy now but when he grows up that dog will know how to swim and dive. So don't be surprise if a few Republicans disappear and are found stuck in a hole someplace at the bottom of the water.
