Happy talk doesn't change this simple fact: Obama is allowing the banks to hold us up
To the tune of x-trillions of dollars. We are being robbed. Doesn't matter what Bush did with regard to TARP; Obama is the President now. Obama -- not Bush -- placed Tim Geithner and Larry "The Pigman" Summers in the Obama administration.

1. Simple fact: If the banks had collapsed, you'd be out of a job.
And hungry.

4. While we need a banking system, there's no rule that says it needs to be those particular banks.
With the bailout money we could have set up a whole new set of banks and told the old established banks to go fuck themselves because they're bankrupt.

10. Yes, that would have been easy to quickly pass through the Senate.
"Hey, Senate. Mind voting on a bill to destroy the private banking system and replace it with government-run banks, with dubious and vague plans for dealing with the aftermath of the collapsing banks?"

18. The NY Times is reporting on the "brain drain" going on at the biggies on Wall St.
as the young bucks are breaking off to start new challengers.

You have got to be smoking crack to think that there isn't a whole slew of young "thangs" ready to jump in and do biz at a discounted rate in order to become the next JP Morgan. These guys think they are all that.

Let the market reign on some of this shit frankly. Too big to fail, means heart attack city. Lean and mean wins the diet wars.

Go nuts

29. there must have been banks that didn't get involved in the credit default swaps
and derivatives, there must have been. those banks should have been allowed to flourish while the banks that gambled went bye bye. thus rewarding sound business practices while letting those who played with other people's money to suffer the consequences. but from what i hear on other threads, the banks have been using TARP funds to buy other banks. so they are benefiting handsomely from their risk taking. and i do not think they should be profiting from their bad mistakes.

6. Are you prepared for what would happen if the banks failed?
Our entire economy would collapse and life as we know it would cease to exist. Do you honestly think Obama can magically fix what has been put in place for years and years and years in a few months? It's so very complicated and removing the tumor will surely kill the patient. Who better to try and shrink it than those who know how?

22. No, but he might try hiring people with success records instead of failure records
The guy who successfully managed the S&L crisis in the 80s would be a great replacement for either Geithner or Summers.

15. By trillions of our dollars?
There are several other possible remedies to the financial crisis -- all much less expensive, some even already been tried and found working in real-life situations (Sweden example, 1930's U.S. bank receivership agency, etc.)

33. Simple fact: I'm happy with Summers/Geitner and Obama's handling of the economy.
You, and maybe 200 other DUers can complain all you want. It ain't going to change the mind of 70% of us that think Obama is doing a good job.
