Where the Wild Things Are
It was great to see President Obama during Easter WH festivities reading Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak. Especially since another book by Sendak, In the Night Kitchen, is a perennial top-ten among books commonly banned from libraries.

The upcoming film version looks really neat, too. The trailer is on Apple.com.

1. I adore that book and he read it so funny!
Books are banned from libraries?! Good grief, I didn't think they were still doing that!

3. When my son was small, we donated a book to the library
in honor of his birthday. He got to pick. It was "In the Night Kitchen."

We knew about all the banning. I was the children's librarian at the time.

4. Also, Maurice Sendak came out last fall
at the age of 80!

He'd been worried that being a gay writer of children's books might have hurt his career when he was younger. But he never really hid it all that hard. He lived with his late partner for 50 years!
