NY-20 Update: Murphy Leads, For Now
NY-20 Update: Murphy Leads, For Now

WSJ Blogs - Washington Wire
April 14, 2009 11:37 AM ET

Susan Davis reports on politics.

Democrat Scott Murphy has the latest ballot edge—by 20 votes—against Republican Assemblyman Jim Tedisco in New York’s 20th congressional district.

The winner of the March 31 special election to replace former Rep. Kirsten Gillibrand will not be determined for at least several more days in part because a court hearing was postponed due to an ill judge.

There was a Monday deadline to receive overseas military absentee ballots for counting, in total there are about 3,700 absentee ballots yet to counted. The Poughkeepsie Journal reported that Tedisco sent a letter to U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder, New York Gov. David Paterson and state Board of Elections officials asking them to extend that April 13 deadline by 15 days.

The election battle is proving contentious as 600 absentee ballots have already been challenged and set aside—a battleground reminiscent of Minnesota’s months-long battle for the Senate seat between Democrat Al Franken and Republican Norm Coleman.

9. The Albany Project is a really interesting website.
Lots of interesting articles/comments about the 20CD race. It is looking awfully dismal for Mr Tedisco. :-)
