President Obama Has Given My Family A Very Personal and Real Hope
I just read this in LBN: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=102&topic_id=3831369&mesg_id=3831529

It turns out that stem cells can be used to temporarily (4 years) reverse type-1 diabetes in humans. As many here know, I have two boys with type-1 (see the youtube link in my sig line). Our family is very active in raising money for a cure, raising awareness and lobbying law makers and politicians about the importance of a cure.

Because Obama was elected President, he was able to reverse the stem cell research ban so that federal funds can be used to help take promising research like this and turn it into a real cure.

All I can say is, from the bottom of my heart, thank you President Obama. You have truly changed the future for our family.

3. That is wonderful
I hope that it can be used to cure your sons. I hope that stem cell research will make many diseases like Type 1 diabetes curable.

4. Thank you Mr. President!
That video is beautiful.
Boston is a crazy place to live, all the research news stories that come out of the universities around here.
I remember in 2007 reading how they successfully treated leukemia with a RFLP, like a little DNA band-aid. On mice, at least.
Can you imagine people looking back on what will be, from Obama's Executive Order, a legacy of stem cell research, and having someone still argue that the costs outweighed the benefits?

Keep up the awesome job, buddy.

7. Berni, this treatment is adult (autologous) stem cells
nothing to do with embryonic stem cells, which is what has been the political football.

It's exciting and it gives real hope to all diabetics and people with autoimmune diseases and your kids. But there have never been any real restrictions on this kind of stem cell research.

Obama lifting the ban on embryonic SC research gives us all joy. And helps the process of valuing science over superstition.

But it's adult stem cells, an entirely different kettle of fish, which will hopefully give immediate relief to your kids.

9. That is why, despite all of my criticisms of Obama, I mostly approve so far
Now if only he would start appointing successful people instead of failures in the financial area, everything would be totally rosy.
