President Obama to tea-baggers: I've already cut taxes
http://www.marketwatch.com/news/story/Obama-tea-baggers-Ive-already/story.aspx?guid=%7B30C2C4A6%2DE7AA%2D4833%2DA6E7%2D83C558FFA037%7D

Obliquely answering the hundreds of "tea bag" protests around the country on tax day, President Barack Obama said Wednesday that he's already delivered the most progressive tax cut in history, with 95% of families getting a tax break in every paycheck.

Americans need a "government that is working to create jobs and opportunity for them, rather than simply giving more and more to those at the very top in the false hope that wealth will trickle down," Obama said.

In his remarks, Obama decried the use of taxes as a political wedge issue "to scare people into supporting policies that increased the burden on working people instead of helping them live their dreams."

"We start from the simple premise that we should reduce the tax burden on working people, while helping Americans go to college, own a home, raise a family, start a business and save for retirement," Obama said.

:applause:

3. My assistant is getting a $20/paycheck improvement in her takehome,
and it went into effect with last Friday's check. I know this because I do the payroll calcs and write the checks and it was noticeable.

6. It's not really about taxes to them - it is a coordinated group whine for losing last November
Edited on Wed Apr-15-09 12:22 PM by ksoze
It is one of the stages of loss - the need in this stage to vent their frustrations over the fact they are in the minority and also have no leaders in their party to provide any sensible direction. The tax angle may have been the start, but many of these protesters are using this "event" as a potpourri of bitching in a form that they think will get them airtime to show their disregard of an America that respects democratic rule (and voting).

10. It is sooo selfishly deranged of the teabaggers
and necessary to shine the light on this with a thoughtful response.

I would have come up with some fancy sign and sold generic tea bags for $10 with "proceeds" going to the Heritage Foundation or the Fair Tax League, sold a few dozen 25-cent tea bags and then sent $5 of the day's "proceeds" to whatever organization I came up with.

Call it a "stupidity tax."

12. The RW doesn't hear "tax breaks for 95%".
They hear "tax increases for 5%". They're stupid and obstinate.

15. The teabaggers don't realize they are protesting the rollback to the 1990s tax rate for the rich
people that are making $250,000+ annually.

That's even more striking when one realizes that it's just a ~4% increase on the MARGINAL rate for the amount ABOVE $250,000 on those with a net taxable income above $250K.

Thus, if a person has $300K in net taxable income, just the upper $50,000 will be taxed at 39% instead of 35%, which is the way it was in the 1990s, when quite a few people had jobs and very few complained about taxes.
