A Quote About Norm Coleman From A Freeper Board
"Sometimes I forget that Norm Coleman, in the prime of his political career, lost to a professional wrestler AND a comedian.

And it took his very popular opponent to die in a plane crash a week before the election for him to get his senate seat to begin with, and even then he won by less than 50,000 votes."

:spray:

2. Al Franken was a PROFESSIONAL wrestler?
I know this will expose my utter stupidity...but I thought Al was just a high school/college wrestler.
Or are we talking about Jesse Ventura in some other contest?
When you correct me, please be kind.

7. The former wrestler was Jesse "The Body" Ventura
Our one term Governor, that people seem to find as an endless reason to deride our state. As far as I am concerned, he wasn't too bad.

13. people think it's cool to laugh at Ventura without knowing anything about him as governor
I lived in MN then, and I thought he was a mixed bag, but as you said, way better than Coleman. He And he didn't go straight from wrestling to governor - he held local office first. And hearing about the Navy Seals and the pirates this week reminded me he had that background too.

And some of Ventura's conspiracy-theory-ish talk sounds a lot less nutty after the Bush administration and other revelations.

9. Oh, who is the big blond guy? Jesse Ventura? Wasn't he governor.?
And a "professional" wrestler. Very dramatic and costumed up.

16. I thought it was Jesse's
Pink Boa that confused and confounded the voters... wasn't that what Norm complained about then?

15. I don't think he won at all vs Mondale. Wish they'd recounted or audited.
I could be wrong, but I'd bet money on the outcome of that recount (Mondale), though I wouldn't bet a whole lot.
