GOP needs to be held accountable by the media for Perry's borderline treasonous rhetoric
Edited on Thu Apr-16-09 01:30 AM by Adenoid_Hynkel
For eight years, the media hammered Democratic officials with every controversial statement remotely associated with the left - like "General Betrayus," for instance.

For a week straight following each of these instances of canned outrage, talking heads would ask Democratic guests, "do you stan by that?" or "Does _____ speak for you?"

Even when the person making the statement had zero ties to the Democratic Party or the left, such as Ward churchill, it was thrown in our face.

Today, the teabagging culminated with the Republican governor of Texas, the most populated GOP state in the nation floating the idea of the dissolution of the U.S.A. through secession. Perry is no obscure figure. he is a party leader.

Perry is exactly the straw man caricature the media tried to hang on the Democrats for the last eight years.

The GOP needs to condemn Perry immediately and, if they had a shred of decency, call for resignation.

Will the media ask any Republican officials if Perry's seditious rhetoric speaks for them?

1. We should be holding him accountable......
But of course, we are too busy holding the President's feet over the fire to go there.

4. they at least need to be called on their hypocrisy
no one on the left ever made comments close to this.
and this isn't some random commentator, either.
It's the governor of texas.
this feeds into paranoia in a time of national crisis and is quite dangerous.

5. The Governor of a State is Approving Calls For Secession

At a minimum, we should increase security at US military facilities there, in the event the leader of Texas is to be taken at his word, and that of the approving crowd he has.

I had no idea that there were bona fide enemies of the United States in positions of power in places like Texas, but I don't want to see our troops hurt as a consequence of failing to take these people at their word.

It's one thing for random yahoos to blow off steam - but this is the elected governor of the state of Texas apparently declaring hostility to the United States.

There is no reason to wait for these Texans to back up their words with actions, and we should be prepared in the event they do.

3. We don't have media in the USA.
We have rightwing and/or neocon pundits.

We have a few -very few- liberal voices.

We have a handful of incredibly excellent investigative journalists (but they're into bigger things than Perry's crap).

But we do not have a media in the USA.
