9. Madison less than 1000
People looking out windows over the Capital square counted 500 to 1000.

2. So Maybe we saw 200,000 to 250,000 TOPS ... the people who
were free to act stupid on a weekday.

I love some of the videos posted on the Video forum, particularly the one from Cleveland.

37. Even Rush Limbaugh said there were only 181,000 total
across the country. You gotta figure that that's inflated so...

Than the total attendance the teabaggers could muster around the whole country.

4. Crowd estimates
are merely a guess at the best of times. The people promoting a crowd always grossly overestimate and those opposed to the crowd underestimate, perhaps a best guess would be 1/2 between each.

That being said, I sure didn't see 1000 people in New Haven yesterday. Maybe my timing was off but there were way fewer than 500 where I was.

41. We're a nation of about 300 million--probably more.
181,000 sounds big but spread out over a bunch of cities it's a blip on the fucking radar.

5. Sacramento, CA - 3,500?
But...but...that shit wad from Faux Noise said there were 10 to 15 thousand people there. And imagine, we only had about 8 thousand when we protested the war in Sacramento. Funny, but I didn't see anything on the news about that.

39. Local news showed clips of Sacramento
claiming 3500. The rolling video panning the 'crowd showed no where near that number. I kept waiting to see the big mass of people and there was none.

27. I was watching CNN and they reported on Nate Silver's numbers and then...
the question was asked on how this ranked in comparison to other protests and the comparison chosen was....... the protests against immigration! I was beyond appalled. They will compromise themselves every time rather than acknowledge the anti-war protests.

10. When are we going to admit that these numbers are significant?
200,000 - 250,000 on a weekday protest is not a joke. I don't care how manufactured by fox this crap is, the fact is that the far right is putting feet on the street and has full and it seems unlimited access to and support from at least one major media broadcast outlet. Laugh away: we should be concerned.

:cue derision:

12. It's not significant because those are the same 10% that will never support a Dem.
Obama's approval is still close to 70% on the economy, so unless that number drops significantly, it really won't matter.

There were more people at the anti-gun rally the weekend after Columbine and there were more people at the immigration rally two years ago.

I think the numbers are cooked...

this is Obama in Denver in October...
It was colder and the fire department said the crowd was 400,000...
somehow the crowd shrunk to only 100,000 in the past 6 months.
and to the right these aren't "real" Americans.

Although Indianapolis/Marion County (where I reside) is not quite so bad (we went heavily for Obama and even Kerry in 2004- I think).

23. We got better numbers for anti-war protest while still pulling in 400k in DC or NYC
and I've seen how the news counts these protests. The liberal number is usually reduced by 25% - if they say 100k protesters usually there was 400k. And the conservatives there protesting they would increase by 10%. 200 people supporting Bush/Anti-Gay/War - that would turn into 2000. They'd count the police protecting them, passerbys who aren't a part of the protest and the anti-war people standing behind these idiots as all part of their numbers.

29. I was off by about 180,000
Predicted: 50,000-70,000.

Still, given that hese were well-funded, long-planned and contrived protests, attracting 250,000 nationwide is pathetic.

Pelosi: Tea parties are part of an ‘astroturf’ campaign by ‘some of the wealthiest people in America.’

The Dems should gather photos of the idiotic signs showing misspelled words/names (Carl Marx) and bizarre statements for use in ads.

31. Who?
Who reported in the numbers? The organizers? Wouldn't doubt they did some grandstanding with those numbers. Kind of like what concert promoters and such will do.....they count up the attendance, but to save face they'll report more people showed up than what actually did to create the perception that it was a success. Even our local television station does that with the MDA Labor Day telethon.

38. Olympia, WA - 4,500?? I don't think so.
It's embarrassing to see my "liberal" hometown on the top 10 list for such a thing, but even the yearly anti-choice bitchfest draws a bigger crowd than the teabagging. The fools actually charter buses for that one.

I did see some of the morans parking near my house though, McCain/Palin stickers still on their gashog SUV's, and had to restrain myself from altering their windows and bumpers. I did manage to shout out "YEAH, MORE TAX CUTS FOR BILLIONAIRES. YEEHAW!!" as they passed by though.

Thing is, none of these people are locals. But then, there wouldn't be any media coverage if they held a teabaggers convention in Mossyrock or Kettle Falls.
