I am now offically "Mad as Hell"
I will be the first to admit, it takes a lot to get me juiced. But the right wing nut jobs have succeeded in getting me to that point.

I am from a family that has sent many of its members to the military. My Dad was a veteran of the D Day invasion of Omaha Beach. I remember being a little little kid, and when the TV would sign off (Yes there was a time, TV did not go all night) I would stand right next my my Dad as he saluted put his hand over his heart and stood in the dark while they played the national anthem and the blue angels flew across that screen.

I am of that ilk.

And let me just say, what the right is doing right now, and Fox news with distorting the report about how right wing groups were targeting ex military (of course they do).. as if we Democrats are slinging insults at the military just gets my blood boiling. By the way those reports on extremists were first being developed under the Bush administration.

This is the same group that we had to fight to get good medical care for returning vets. Get them adequate armor. They are now ginning the navy as killers of teens.

I am ready to spit.

The military works at the behest of the the President and Congress on behalf of the American people. They do NOT just independently decide whoopee lets all go to war etc etc. That is why it is so important that we keep working to keep our people in office. Because that is who will decide what actions our military takes.. YOU AN ME.. we are the ones who guide how the military will be used by the people we put in the congress and executive branch

The professional military leaders, yes many of them are hard righters, (think about that for a minute, and how some of the right is willing to do anything for their politics) but certainly not all the leadership

Are there rightists in the boots on the ground, oh you bet, the military mirrors the American people. But most boots on the ground military, are more apt to be middle of the road people many many democrats.

And as a proud member of a family that has had many serve to protect and defend. I am ready and willing to so battle in the arena of ideas with this nit wits on the right who use and abuse our proud military. In fact I am biting at the bit and ready for it. Bring it on

1. The Army and Marines went to Iraq kicking and screaming. The military's pretty diverse.
Remember it was three aviators - GWB, Rumsfeld, and Gen. Myers - who decided to invade Iraq. No ground pounders were consulted.

Moral: don't trust aviators to run your war.

6. don't trust the navy either.
You don't want to fight a war, make sure to go green, not blue.

11. The Navy isn't as officer-heavy as the Air Force. Lower percentage of selfish individualists. nt

5. Too many, even on DU, fail to comprehend that the military does what WE SEND THEM TO DO.
Through those WE ELECT and with the taxes WE PAY, those in the military subordinate themselves to the will of the People. To then blame them for that service is consistent with complaining to a waiter for bringing the food we order. Fucking insane. We pay veterans' benefits like we tip 10%. What is it about "service" that people don't comprehend? How can people claim it's "involuntary servitude" on the one hand and then blame the (alleged) slaves for such servitude??? Hypocritical horse shit.

8. PTSD can really mess people up
Revolutionary War vets kept stirring up local rebellions. Civil War vets made the Wild West wild. World War I vets became bootleggers. World War II vets joined biker gangs.

Not all that many of them -- but it only takes a tiny minority to cause a significant spike in random violence. Heck, you only need one Tim McVeigh to wreak mayhem.

This says nothing about the military -- but it does say a lot about what war does to people.

9. Exactly... and that was the point of the DHS report.. that few..
and it really only takes one or two.. as you said.. look to Timothy McVeigh.. But the righters have Nepalitiano now apologizing for the controversy they created..

One of my brothers is a postal worker,, and sure enough a few years ago we had a few postal workers go "postal"// and we need to know how to identify it.. but that means that 99.9999% of postal workers have no issues..

But we do not want to deny help to the .0001 percent that needed help.. They killed a lot of people..

I really detest right wing looney tunes who try and keep people from getting help to prove their political point of view..
