an official apology to DU
in a recent thread, I was less than wonderful. Although I have been less than wonderful at other times, I owe DU an apology and an explanation:

I was laid off in december, traveled 2,000 miles for a job that ended suddenly in march. I'm here away from my family (wife and son I haven't seen since January) and a job I was applying for that I thought I had a good chance to get fell through the same day I read that thread that rubbed me the wrong way. I don't have enough money to pay both rent here and mortgage back home and I can't afford to move what little furniture I have here so I have to abandon it.

I was bitter and angry and took it out on that thread and people that didn't deserve to be treated that way.. I'm really sorry about that. I didn't realize that was what I was doing at the time...I kind of came to my senses this morning.

again, my apologies.

I'm not sure what thread you speak of, but I have been going through something similar for the past two years. I understand the bitterness and anger. I think the others here will, as well. Hang in there. This too shall pass. Keeping my fingers crossed that it's soon--for all of us.

surely caught on to the fact that something was wrong...Even though I wasn't on that thread, I know, that it takes a big person to come back and apologize...So I will accept your apology and ask if there is anything we can do?....wb

25. Yep, you can't let it consume you
It changes nothing and destroys you in the process. I was in a VERY dark place over the winter. I kept the thermostat at freezing and with the short days and cold, I was more miserable than I have been in a long time. Thing is, that is really going to show up in an interview. You can't hide it. So taking mental breaks are just as important as sending out the resumes.

Now that it's warmer, I'm outside and back in my garden and feeling much better. Now I just have to lose 10 pounds so I can fit in my professional clothes again. Sitting around in long underwear and sweats doesn't provide the needed reality check. LOL!

I'm just doing what I can, plugging away, and believing the universe will take care of it. I've been through worse times than this and I somehow survived. I can get through this again. You can, too. It may not be the same again, but you'll be better for it if you can push your way through it.

Edited on Thu Apr-16-09 10:47 AM by Jackeens
I know the feeling, you wake up in the morning and think "OH MY GOD, WHAT DID I SAY", and then you want to curl up and die.

I have no idea either what was said, but just wanted to say I've been there too. Good on you for the apology, says a lot about you.

I wish you all the very best, I sincerely hope things improve for you, sounds like you're having a truly horrible time. Take care.

24. {{{{{ hug }}}}}
I hear you. I've been looking for work for over six months, and sending the resumes out without even the courtesy of a reply gets old. Fortunately, I just reached retirement age. It won't be a princely pension, and my savings have evaporated, but it'll be enough to get by if I'm frugal.

I don't envy anyone trying to raise a family in this economy. Sometimes anger is an understandable response. And even some here at DU have bought into blaming the victims of the financial debacle. I'm starting to lose patience with them myself.

Were it not for the dislocation - in fact, I'd likely be somewhere with a steel toilet...
Basically, my wife, friends, and pets are what is keeping me in shouting distance of sane - and you've been in the outfield for 3 months.

28. Did you deduct for moving expenses anyway? Hopefully you did...
I know it benefitted me when I moved to Portland in November quite a bit, though optimally would have gotten more back had I left in late October instead of November on my Oregon tax refund. Every little bit helps in this economy...
