Poll question: If Hillary Had Been Elected, The Teabaggers Would Be Protesting Primarily Because They Are Sexist:
We may take it as a given that the astroturf demonstration yesterday definitely included a large subset of people predisposed to racist sentiments.

However, my proposition is that the people who showed up to "teabag" were responding to organizing from the top that would have occurred no matter WHICH Democrat won in November.

Hillary, Biden, Edwards.

The Dick Armey Teabagging Army would have marched yesterday regardless what the winning Democrat's race, sex or home state.

No matter what Democratic POTUS was sitting in the White House today, the Republican leadership would be agitating against them. Sadly, there would ALWAYS be a significant subset of those agitated Republican people who are racist, sexist or regionalist on some level.

But yesterday, the focus was an actual issue- taxes. Taxes which they mistakenly believe are being raised, not being channeled properly, not being levied with representation.

IMO, it's more productive to point out how UTTERLY these people are wrong about their stated issue of taxes than it is to paint the entire spectacle as racist.

In fact, I prefer to point out the whole thing was a product of citizens who call themselves Republicans blindly doing what they were told to do with no regard for the facts involved. The fact so many are dominated by their Reptilian brain and prone to Us v. Them mentality and unquestioning obedience to Authority is a more salient point then focusing on the potential for open displays of racism to show up.

Back to the poll-

If Hillary had been elected, the 'Teabaggers' would be protesting primarily because they are sexist-

6. I believe there would
have been far fewer hate groups represented at these protests if the Democratic president was white. The crowds would have been a lot smaller IMO.

9. Yes. Agree.
They may not come out and say racist things, but there is an extra anxiety and urgency with many of the protesters because they feel a black man in power has "payback" in his genes.

7. they hate the democratic party in a way that the democratic party
can't ever get up the passion to return.

that doesn't take away from their racism, sexism, homophobia, hatred of the federal govermnment or anything else.

because they find all of that in the democratic party.

8. I'm guessing you missed the plethora of overtly racist signs
Not only that, but try reading any online article that allows people to leave comments, and notice how many blatantly racist comments the tea-bagging crowd posts.

I'm sure that if Hillary were president instead, that yes there would be a sizable number of sexist signs and comments as well.

12. What would a Venn diagram of the teabaggers look like?
A Venn diagram shows how subsets of things overlap. Each subset is represented by a circle and the circles overlap each other to show where the subsets have common members. With the teabaggers we could have three subsets: racists, sexists, and angry white men.
Wikipedia has a nice general picture to show the concept:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Venn_Diagram

Usually the circles have some overlap. However, in this case, don't you think that the three circles overlap completely? The teabaggers are racists, sexist angry white men (and unbelievably some women). In terms of set theory, this would be represented as a union or the term "AND." In contrast, the term "OR" could be used.

teabaggers = Racists AND Sexist AND angry white men (with some women).

This is in contrast to

teabaggers = Racists OR Sexist OR angry white men.

(This is possible, but not the case.)

The logical conclusion is that the three subsets are equivalent.

13. that might be a tougher false accusation
there were, after all, a fair number of females at these events. Whereas, even in 2004, 90% of black people voted for our guy.

17. There would still have been a protest but the make-up of the protesters would be different, imo...
and the signs would be different as it relates to the "subset". The teabaggers were not ALL racists but many were and they came out BECAUSE a black man is President. There were those who came out because the President is a Democrat AND a black man. There were those, a smaller number by far, imo, that came out because they didn't have a clue about anything but they were told to protest so they did.

If Hillary had been elected President and everything else, ie policy proposals, etc, were the same, the make-up of the protesters would not ALL be sexists but many would be and they would come out BECAUSE Hillary was President. There would be those who would come out because the President is a Democrat AND a woman. There would be those, imo, that would come out, again, because they don't have a clue about anything but they were told to protest so they would.

The teabagger protest was predominantly racist.

The 'Hillary' protest would be predominantly sexist.

One does not mitigate the other.

19. Obviously. We would have had five or more months of veiled misogynism from the MSM...
...rather than the veiled racism they've been pimping. Big Money knows what buttons to push when it comes to motivating the ignorant.
