Aryan Nations recruiting again in northern Idaho
Apr 18th, 2009 | COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho -- The Aryan Nations has returned to northern Idaho with what it is calling a "world headquarters" and a recruitment campaign.

Coeur d'Alene resident Jerald O'Brien, who has a large swastika tattoo on his scalp, is one of the leaders of the white supremacist group and said he expects membership to grow because of the election of President Barack Obama.

He told The Spokesman-Review newspaper that the president is the "greatest recruiting tool ever."

Residents of a Coeur d'Alene subdivision found recruitment fliers on their lawns Friday and O'Brien said more fliers will be distributed. He said the group has "several handfuls" of members in the city.

The fliers show a young girl asking her father "Why did those dark men take mommy away?"

But many in the region reject the group.

1. Coeur d'Alene is such a beautiful place
Too bad so many asshole supremacists call it home. I was surprised, as a freshman at Willamette U. in 1968, that Salem, Oregon was so racist. I had a black roommate, and when we walked the downtown streets together, people would slow down and call me a N***** lover. I was told that at one time, there was a city ordinance that had a limit on the number of blacks that could live in the city limits. WWII changed a bit of that when many blacks went to work in the shipyards in Seattle and settled throughout the Northwest. I has always thought the Northwest to be liberal.

2. It's always unfortunate to see Irish surnames attached to these idiots.
And you see it so much, especially out west. Too many Irish-Americans are racist assholes and embarrass our ancestry.

With that said, I'm thankful we don't have nearly the same amount of white supremacy problems in Utah as in Idaho. They've never been able to really take hold outside of some smaller cities the closer you get to the Idaho border.

3. When thugs (almost none of them born and raised in N Idaho) came out of the last
NAZI compound and attacked peaceful protesters a local jury awarded the protesters a massive award and the compound was taken and sold to pay for the millions paid to the protesters.

People in the region do not support these ignorant intruders.

4. I might suggest that DUers who are able might want to fight back by
making a donation to the Southern Poverty Law center. They do great work fighting this kind of monstrosity.
