5. Yep.
Smile Hugo! Keep smiling!

Chavez wouldn't be so bad, if he's learn to keep his mouth shut in public.

Otherwise, he's auditioning to replace Carlos Mencia.

8. I believe that's covered in the book Chavez gave Obama.
You know, the "500 years" part of the title.

13. No, I've read a synopsis. Read the damn title -- it says FIVE CENTURIES of Pillage.
The U.S. did not exist 500 years ago. Spain and Portugal did. Obviously, a book that talks about 500 years of exploitation starts with the first European incursions on the continent -- that would be Spain and Portugal.

Do you get it now?

18. Why are you being so offensive and condenscending in response to a simple question?
And WTH would Pres. Obama want to give Chavez the same book Chavez gave him, considering the obvious bias the book probably has against the United States? I'd much rather President Obama give Chavez a book written by an American scholar.

21. You were the one who said Obama should give Chavez a book about Spain & Portugal's exploitation
of Latin American's indigenous people. I pointed out that such a topic was already covered in the book that Chavez gave Obama. It seemed obvious to me that Chavez wouldn't need a book on that particular subject, seeing as how he is probably quite familiar with it.

It was your book suggestion, not mine.

OP: "What book should Obama have given Chavez??"

Your response to the OP: "One that details the pillaging genocide of the native people of Latin America by Spain and Portugal."

25. Yes, but considering the biased viewpoint Chavez has, I'd want Pres. Obama to give him a book....
Edited on Sun Apr-19-09 01:39 PM by ClarkUSA
.... that is from an American scholar's viewpoint.

26. Okay then. How about _The People's History of the United States_ by Howard Zinn?
He's an American scholar.

Of course, the real question is, why would you think that a book about Latin American by a U.S. author would have more credibility than a book by Eduardo Galeano, who is an award-winning historian and journalist? Smacks of chauvinism, to me.

Pres. Obama picking a tome by an American scholar is about as chauvanistic as Chavez picking Galeano. Not sure why you'd object, unless you're biased against American scholars?

14. I studied the history in college, based on history books written by Latin Americans
Everything is not about the US. The world didn't begin on July 4, 1776 and terrorism didn't begin on 9/11.

22. The script for Stephen Sondheim's "Assassins."
No sarcasm. The musical play explains how various people became Presidential assassins. Basically they all share the common belief that they are always right, no matter what anyone else says, and they're all sure that history will vindicate them. Doesn't that sound like Chavez? Or Bush and Cheney, for that matter?
