No progressive or liberal should be an apologist for someone
like Ahmadinejad. And in the last day we've seen a fair amount of that. Some claim that there's some truth in his utterances. So what? Even if that's true, that's like saying there's some truth in what David Duke says or some truth in what any other bigot says. It's hardly uncommon for bigots to incorporate some truth with the hate.

I'm disgusted when I see any sort of apologism extended toward, for example, Avigdor Lieberman or Netanyahu. Fortunately, I've seen very little of that. Unfortunately, I've seen a fair amount of it when it comes to Ahmadinejad. And it's disgusting.

And for the record: The last fucking thing I want is for the U.S. to take any military action against Iran. Period. In fact, I want to see normaliztion of relations. That has zip all to do with Ahmadinejad being a bigot.

1. I agree with you totally.
To call out Ahmadinejad as well as other leaders who are out of line shows courage, integrity, and character.

2. We absolutely made the right decision to stay out of that nonsense "conference" on racism
By no means should Israel get a free pass or racism (nor should we), but I'll be dammed if we should have to listen to A'mad rant and rave about racism: someone who is a Holocaust denier, an anti-Semite, a homophobe and a sexist.

How many other countries have actually elected a racial minority as their president?

5. If you think having actually eclected a racial minority as president means we've eradicated racism
Edited on Tue Apr-21-09 12:35 PM by Raineyb
in this country then it's no wonder why you think this boycott is a good idea. It's all rather self congratulatory to think so but all so wrong.

10. In which case why mention that we've elected a racial minority as president?
Is that supposed to show that we don't need to attend a conference on racism? That's what you're implying and as such my comment stands. Electing a racial minority does not mean that we've got nothing to fix here and boycotting that conference just shows that no matter who runs the country as we currently are we will not do anything about racism. Let's face it, our leaders pay it lip service but most of them don't give a damn about it. It doesn't affect them.

Regards

7. the poster said no such thing. but you knew that.
and the tenuous connection to the poster agreeing that boycotting Durban was a wise decision, is inane.

miss inferences and then bloviate idiotically.

Don't you hate being so bloody predictable?

and perhaps it would be best for you if you didn't post in my threads- not that it's a problem for me, but your frothing at the mouth is pathetic.

15. You are as helpful as a hole in the head. Your amateur psychology is really quite
tiresome.

Don't you have someone to bully or something? Obviously intelligent conversation is not your forte.

3. Agreed,
A RW bigoted bastard is a RW bigoted bastard, whatever the country. And that describes Ahmadinejad.

And I am totally against any attack on Iran.

16. Attending a conference on racism wouldn't have made anyone
an apologist for anyone.

We should have attended. The only reason we aren't is because our government supports Israeli racism no matter what the consequences. That's really sad.

17. Does that include apologists for the right-wing racist extremists running Israel?
I haven't seen anyone defending Ahmadinejad but I have seen some people support the right-wing extremists running Israel while at the same time they oppose the Congressional Black Caucus and NAACP because they endorse the UN's international anti-racism conference.

Some right-wingnuts still demand that the United States get out of the United Nations in part because of the UN's activities against racism.

20. bwahahaha.
you're quite the comedian. And there have been lots of folks acting as apologist and saying crap like "Ahmadinejad spoke the truth and that's why they're trying to shut him up".

Try honesty, honey. And sorry, in the threads about Ahmadinejad, there hasn't been a single post supporting Netenyahu and his cohorts.

Stop trying to deflect and dodge.

Oh, and YOU are one of the people I was thinking of when I wrote the OP. Your bullshit is there for all to see.
