Lieberman: we ought to be able to use something like waterboarding.
Lieberman: Obama releasing OLC torture memos 'helps our enemies.'

Q: First of all, is waterboarding torture?

LIEBERMAN: Well, I take a minority position on this. Most people think it's definitely torture. The truth is, it has mostly a psychological impact on people. It's a terrible thing to do. ... I want the president of the United States in a given circumstance where we believe somebody we've got in our control may have information that could help us stop an attack, an imminent attack on the United States like 9/11 or, god forbid, worse, we ought to be able to use something like waterboarding.

Torture logic

Waterboarding is torture you depraved bastards.

nothing to do with justice... everything to do with hatred and revenge, even if those tortured and killed are mainly innocent.

2. Joe is an embarrassment to those of us who live in CT. I apologize.
Of course, he was first elected to the Senate when I was 12 and I voted for Lamont last time but still...I'm sorry we have this pathetic creature as one of our Senators.

7. Joe is liberal on economic issues, and sort of like a right wing Israeli
on war issues. In fact, Israel is a pretty socialist country. Joe views things this way in America. Therefore, his advocacy for torture makes sense. He is dead wrong, of course, but at least I understand why now.

12. Rec'd~ It's been great not having to
see what this pervert has to say lately like during the election when he was always whining about something.

<from your link>

Last year, Lieberman downplayed the severity of waterboarding, saying, "It is not like putting burning coals on people's bodies." In February, he joked about the torture tactic at Washington's Alfalfa dinner."

Either way, it's disappointing, but not unexpected from Joe Lieberman.

15. We ought to torture children and make their parents watch
where does it stop?

That torture is now up for debate is the single biggest setback to human rights in the last decade. We must never forgive the Bush admin for this.

Because waterboarding CLEARLY violates both the fifth and eighth amendments.

It's possible that he may be plotting a terrorist act. How are we supposed to obtain details of this plot if we aren't allowed to waterboard him?

33. What the hell was Gore thinking when picked this guy for VP?
The thought of him as VP freaks me out.

Evidently Lieberman forgets - conveniently- that the US prosecuted the Japanese after WWII for waterboarding and also prosecuted our own soldiers many years earlier for waterboarding. It is long established that the US considers waterbaording to be a punishable crime.
