That includes Bush and Cheney.

On MSNBC just now.

1. Awesome!
Now, who was it I was trying to school on nuance yesterday... and the day before... ? I have a nice fat juicy crow to serve up.

2. Yes. I, too, recall making observations regarding the president's gift for subtlety...
He released the memos. He released them for a reason.

That point is too subtle, I guess, for the huffington post and NYT.

For a new administration to insist on vigorously prosecuting the prior administration is bad form, it's "playing checkers".

He released the memos.

He's doing it right.

3. Should Obama even be making this distinction?
Edited on Tue Apr-21-09 07:52 PM by Cali_Democrat
Obviously I would rather have the policy-drafters (the higher-ups) prosecuted than the ones who actually carried out the torture like the grunts at the CIA. So this is great news.

But I think Obama should leave it all in the hands of the Justice Department and maybe the Justice Department or a Special Prosecutor decides to prosecute both.

The Justice Department should be free of politics and they should simply see if ANYBODY broke the law.

That's why Obama shouldn't really be saying anything right now.

If I'm off base, please somebody let me know.

4. I'm glad he opened the door to the prosecution of those who built the torture policy.

I don't think he should make statements about not prosecuting the torturers that should be up to the AG and hopefully a Special Prosecutor.

6. It's a good day, for sure
I'm not trying to get anyone's mood down. The President reiterated that "As a general view, I do think we should be looking forward, not back." And at some point he's likely to have some say. And based on the past with Democrats, there's reason to be cautious.

Some of it is definitely on the people to keep the pressure on. I just love how the media thinks prosecution is a "far left" idea. :eyes:

5. Obama hasn't given anyone immunity. Holder decides who to prosecute.
Frankly I'd like to see all their sorry asses fried. But that's me.
