9. And I was literally crying when the survivors lit the candles...
.... I have to ask myself if I would have the courage to stand up and do what was right like they did.

10. We're gonna have fun examining his speech .....
.... as we try to infer from anything he says something that we can apply to our current conundrum. I sure am glad I didn't have to help right this one! lol

11. Thank you, Mister President. With eloquence and relevancy
mentioning Darfur and Rwanda - that we have gotten used to expect from you.

Last year we visited the Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, D.C.

What struck me most was not so much the story of the rise and atrocities of Nazism in Germany; there really was not much to add.

No, what struck me was how the rest of the world treated the German Jews.

- When Hitler first took power, many in the West, including Churchill, welcomed that "barrier" to Communism.

- In the Evian Conference, only the Dominican Republic was willing to accept a significant number of German Jews. This was a major propaganda boost to Hitler to show that if the rest of the world does not care about Jews, then he can do with "his" whatever he wanted.

- S.S. St. Louis, a German boat with Jews escaping the Nazi's new rules. The ship sailed to Cuba where they were promised entry but once the ship arrived, Cuba changed its mind. The U.S. State Dept. apparently dominated by anti-Semitic clerks, would not let them enter, either, and it was forced to return to Germany where many of the passengers were sent to concentration camps.
