OK....Those who wanted Investigations on Torture, YOU have a JOB TO DO....You Better Believe THAT!
Edited on Thu Apr-23-09 05:05 PM by FrenchieCat

We need to deal with our media.

They are attempting to turn any possibility of investigations into
a "Was it torture?" debate,
as well a "Is the President starting a Witchhunt?" query,
with the exasperating "If we start, where does it end?" conclusion.

THIS IS THE PRESIDENT'S RESPONSE!

SO WHAT IS YOURS???

You wanted it, now you can get it......
cause you are the one that you have been waiting for!

.....those who for years were foaming at the mouth to get that ball rolling on this ASAP,
let me just mention that....the ball is now in our court.

So what are WE going to do about it?

Please contact your media of choice,
and add your voice to telling the media "Oh, hell to the Naw!"

The media has already been complicit and therefore responsible for the theft of the 2000 election, the re-election of Bush, getting us into war and for the looting of our treasury. Let us not allow them to add this feather to their caps!

I'm sick of their shit, and I'm not taking it anymore!
We all need to be sick of this shit!

Contact the media and tell them you aren't taking this anymore!

a couple of months ago, Woodward was on the Chris Matthews show scoffing at the idea of an investigation. I posted a thread on it, and someone commented that the Woodward of today would not want to investigate Watergate. The media has grown so apathetic.

17. Great post, the media is trying to "reframe" the issue
When rubbish like this is on the front page of the NYTimes website...It annoys me

"Is Cheney Winning the Torture Debate?
By ERIC ETHERIDGE
At the Plum Line, Greg Sargent says that an article in today’s issue of The Times — originally titled “At Core of Detainee Fight: Did Methods Stop Attacks?” — is proof that Cheney & Co. are effectively “shifting the torture debate on to the narrow question of whether torture has ‘worked.’ ”"

Really??? There is a torture debate? In America? Wow.

26. What makes you think that we haven't already been doing that job?
And frankly, where the hell were you? Oh, yeah, rah, rah, ree, ree, whatever Obama does is fine with me:eyes:

Frankly the torture issue wouldn't be front and center right now if it wasn't for people like us screaming our heads off at the media, at our reps, at the administration. Hell, Obama was ready to let it slide until the left raised such an outcry that he was forced to give bit (and boy, didn't you hate that, the left making him do it)

So don't come around here trying to both get out in front of this train, and trying to scold the left, simultaneously. You were more than willing to allow torture to drop, so take your holier than thou attitude and, well, you know.

If you want to get out front and lead on issues like this, you need some sort of credibility. You don't get that kind of cred by blowing in the wind, going whatever direction Obama goes. All that does is to make you a hypocrite and a sycophant, with no credibility at all.

I'm so sorry that you see no need to encourage people to use what little power they have to influence their representatives and political discourse. I've always thought it would be wonderful if 1% of the American people contacted their members of Congress. I didn't realize how wrong I was. I will now just sit back and watch what happens, because you've done it all.

have thought about it, but didn't have the time or the inclination to have what they might need, as long as it saves them time.

Find me the post where I was willing to "drop" torture from my repertoire.

What you will find is that you are confusing me with someone else,
as I am sure we all look alike to you.

As for me providing media contacts and you labeling that that as trying to lead....
what in the fuck have you provided to this forum besides unending negativity about
every damn thing Barack Obama has ever said or done?

Credibility, my friend, is something you are better off not commenting on.....
as yours is questionable, at best.
Wanting to see the President fail has never been a credible stance here at DU from where I sit....
and let's face it...that is all that you have ever posted about.

28. 2009 must be National Amnesty Year...
...for the rich and powerful.

* Amnesty for torture

* Amnesty for Wall Street

* Amnesty for wire tapping

* Amnesty for Ted Stevens

And its the year for screwing over the other 290 million people in this country. One very large common denominator in all this amnesty - "private" corporations are at the center of each disasters. The government has been outsourced and so has common justice. The rules do not apply to AT&T, CACI, Haliburtan, Goldman Sachs, AIG Citigroup. All of them are in complete control of our three branches of Gov. and the media.

I assure you as a private individual, these corporations have rights above you.

If we keep sitting on our asses, we get what we deserve.

46. Your heart may be in the correct place, but do you honestly believe that the corporate media will
pay any attention to your, or many others' letters, etc.?

They can and do ignore efforts such as you recommend - they have no effect. The six corps who own (practically) all the media are too big and powerful to be bothered by a few letters or calls. It is like pounding your hand on a boulder - you may feel better that you have "done something" but the boulder feels nothing and you have a sore hand.

They are also way too big for any kind of economic attack (threatening a boycott of sponsors, for instance).

The only vulnerable spot in the media machine is its weak link - the people who spread their propaganda. Take the attack directly to the pundits and the anchors and others who deliver the message and you may be able to inhibit their message-delivery system a bit. Make the presentation of lies on-air a risky business for the mouthpieces. Until that happens, they suffer no consequences for aiding and abetting the criminal organizations that own them.

I've already written several blog posts that included video from the pathetic comments by our media personalities. I just watched that simpleton Chris Matthews repeatedly interrupt Johnathan Turley who was on as a guest and discount his view by saying....But you have a point of view. WHAT? Everyone has a POV but Matthews singled out Turley and Krugman for his comment about POV. They were singled out because, unlike Matthews and most of our pathetic media crowd, these people advocated for following the rule of law. Evidently when you advocate following the rule of law your opinion is somehow suspect. I'm just furious over that show!
