First lady says she sneaks out for burgers
First lady Michelle Obama pulled back the curtains a little bit on life in the White House, revealing that she and her staff like to sneak out to eat at fun places.

Three months into her new role, she said Thursday she has the best job in the White House, doesn't miss cooking and new dog Bo is "kind of crazy."

"Every now and then I have this thing that I like to do with some of my staff members, and we sneak out, without telling anybody, and we go and test out all the fun places to eat in D.C.," Mrs. Obama told children visiting the White House.

"I went to Five Guys and nobody knew it," she said, naming a popular chain of hamburger restaurants. "It was good."

-----

"I think I have the best job in the White House. I don't have to deal with the hard problems every day," Mrs. Obama said. "I have some problems that I have to deal with, but I get to do the fun stuff."

34. And Old Bay
It's a local Maryland spice combo, made for seafood. Works well on fries and potato chips, too.

I had never heard of them until one opened a few months ago in my town. I didn't even know what kind of food they had. Are the burgers any good?

19. By "anybody" I assume she means staff, press, public, not
the SS, right? I hope she's not sneaking out without them!

But I hope they had fun, and it sounds like they did!

20. Not necessarily.
She may be going out with a handful of people. Hillary used to do it all the time. She particularly liked to go for her power walks around DC. She would go by herself or with a friend and a couple of SS guys. She has more than one anecdote to tell. Like the woman who said that had anyone ever told her that she looked like the first lady only younger and prettier. She also once was asked for directions by some tourists.

23. Hil loves to power walk.

That and the tread mill are her main form of exercise. She says that it clears her head. The WH can be like a gilded cage and she wanted to feel free once in a while. She and the SS would blend in by dressing in jogging outfits and she would wear a cap. I think that once some tourists even asked her to take their pic. If only they had known who she was.... LOL!!!

:D

28. I wonder if it's weird for her to go back there now as Sec of State
I think she's over there a lot between meetings with Obama, cabinet meetings, and her weekly breakfast with Biden.

29. She's at the WH several times a week when Obama and she are in town.
I don't think that it bothers her. Some of the permanent staff are still there from her time as First Lady. She lived there for 8 years and would occasionally visit when Bush was in office. In other words, been there done that.

;)

31. Probably just a few agents
The Secret Service's best weapon is in fact secrecy. If the protectee is going somewhere that isn't disclosed to the public, then they can have less protection because the odds of a crazy psychopath just showing up at Five Guys when the first lady happens to is very slim. For high visibility scheduled events it's like a fortress because the crazies know exactly where to go.

Heart attack on a bun!

Yeah, their burgers are good, but they're GREASY. That's half the fun. Although she needs to put Old Bay on her fries.

35. That makes me so happy.....
... I feel for those guys, not being able to make a midnight run to Taco Bell or to be able to GO to the store and look at all of the kinds of toothpaste available and select the one they want, as opposed to having someone else buy it for them.

It's still not QUITE that freedom .... but it's a bit closer.

I mean, SURE, you have Tiger Woods in your living room and all, but I'm not convinced it's a fair trade off.
