FREEPER TEARS

Some reactions to our newest Democratic congressman!

"to have a 25 vote difference in a 155,000 total vote is a mathematical impossibility.

Then, what, for the first time in history the absentee ballots went to the Dems instead of the GOP, in spite of the GOP sending out more absentee ballots.

This thing reeks."

Actually mathematics genius the correct term is statistically improbable...actually the end vote total for any election with 155,000 total votes is statistically improbable.

"Unlike Republicans and Conservatives, the Dimocrats and Lieberals are in it to win at all costs and they keep at it till they win." It is a shame when we ask for all the votes to be counted and the actual winner be declared based on that vote total than by having 9 people decide an election

and lastly

"ACORN WINS AGAIN." I need to get involved with this organization...they seem to have the power to not only elect Barack Obama by 8.5 million votes but they also seem to have the power to throw up state NY races.

5. Gloat while you can
but this is a razor-thin victory. In part, it's because President Obama's numbers are still pretty sky-high. They might not be quite this lofty during early November, 2010.

We have a lot of work still to be done.

7. And Kirsten Gillibrand
won it by six points in 2006, and twenty-four points in 2008. A tiny fraction of a percentage point is not a lot to crow about.

10. See my post above
as to how a Democratic candidate could do well in a Repuke district.

Like I said, for this to be some sort of bellwether, the rest of the Obama Presidency had better well be seen as "performing". It's not impossible, it's just going to be difficult. We all need to keep working, 2008 did not mean resting on our laurels.

13. Oh that's what your worried about?
Tommorow I'm meeting with a county commissioner's candidate to aid him on his field plan than helping the Mayor of Allentown on his re-election campaign, than I'm going to the county party office to help with a project, and I'm organizing a fundraising campaign for the county party. I'm working as hard for change today as I was last April 24th.

12. Gloating?
This is a very conservative district in which WE WON.

The FReepers and the GOP said that if Murphy wins, Steele is out.

This is the opposite of Army Paul Vs. Mean Jean in OH-2 a few years ago.

14. It was quite good for Murphy
that this election was very soon in the new Presidency, I do feel that things may get worse before they get better. May we all have such fortuitous circumstances in our elections to come.

18. "to have a 25 vote difference in a 155,000 total vote is a mathematical impossibility" - TRUE
But it's NOT a mathematical impossibility to have a 25 vote difference in a 155,001 total vote.

ASSUMING that the "total vote" is all valid votes for two candidates.

Why? Because there's no way that an even number can be the sum of two numbers whose difference is an odd number. Likewise, there's no way that an odd number can be the sum of two numbers whose difference is an even number.

It's true but irrelevant since (1) the reported total votes is an approximation, not a precise tally and (2) the components of the total votes cast are more than just twoo, and would probably include write-ins and minor candidates.
