Obama, Biden Relocated After Two Small Planes Stray(From Friday)

April 24 (Bloomberg) -- President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden were relocated briefly while at work at the White House after two small planes strayed today into restricted airspace over the Washington area.

Security officials at the White House and Capitol went on alert during the incident and cleared tourists and others from outside areas around the two buildings.

Both planes violated airspace restrictions in roughly the same area at about 12:30 p.m., Paul Turk, a Federal Aviation Administration spokesman, said in an interview. The pilots of the two planes weren’t flying together, he said.

The first plane, a single-engine Piper Cherokee, landed at Hyde Field in Clinton, Maryland, south of Washington, before the military could intercept it, Turk said. The second plane, a single-engine Cessna 180, had departed from Maine and was diverted to the Maryland Airport in Indian Head, also in the suburbs south of Washington, according to the FAA.

The pilot of the second plane and his wife were flying to North Carolina to visit their daughter, said Gil Bauserman, a co-owner of the airport in Indian Head. “One of his navigational aids went out and he got disoriented,” Bauserman said in an interview.

The names of the pilots weren’t released by the FAA.
