Sarah Palin comes out with an attack on Obama in NY Post Op-Ed Article
Edited on Sat Apr-25-09 11:18 PM by TeamJordan23
Palin's swipe

The Alaska Governor comes in with a scathing attack on Obama's failure to embrace Republicans in the New York Post's "100 Days, 100 Mistakes" broadside at Obama:

Obama soared to victory on the hopeful promise of a new era of bipartisanship. During his inaugural address he even promised an 'end to the petty grievances and false promises, the recriminations and worn-out dogmas, that for far too long have strangled our politics.'

Too bad it took all of three days for the promise to ring hollow.

Start with Obama's big meeting with top congressional leaders on his signature legislation -- the stimulus -- on the Friday after his inauguration. Listening to Republican concerns about overspending was a nice gesture -- until he shut down any hopes of real dialogue by crassly telling Republican leaders: 'I won.' Even the White House's leaking of the comment was a slap at the Republican leadership, who'd expected Obama to adhere to the custom of keeping private meetings with congressional leadership, well, private.

It's only gone downhill from there. The stimulus included zero Republican recommendations, and failed to get a single House Republican vote.

It's not just the tactic of using Republicans for bipartisan photo-ops, and then cutting them loose before partisan decisions, that irks Obama's opponents. The new president wasted no time rushing forward with policies and legislation guaranteed to drive Republicans nuts. The first bill he signed into law was the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act -- a partisan hot-button that drew all of eight Republican supporters in the entire Congress. Then there was the swift reversal of Bush policies on abortion and embryonic-stem-cell research -- issues dear to the Republican base.

And when Obama and the Democrats in Congress took up SCHIP -- the children's health-insurance bill that Republicans say vastly expands government's role in health care -- they had an easy chance for real bipartisanship. After all, the bill had been hashed out in the previous Congress, and a bipartisan accord was reached before President Bush responded with a veto. Did the Obama team push for the compromise version in the 111th Congress? Nope. They went back to the drawing board, ramming through the Democrats' dream version.

Of course, the lack of bipartisanship isn't limited to Capitol Hill. Obama has taken gratuitous swipes at the Republicans who recently decamped Washington, blaming President Bush for everything from the economy and the war to the lack of sufficient puppies and rainbows. And who could forget the Rush Limbaugh flap -- in which Obama's top advisers, including chief of staff Rahm Emanuel, orchestrated a public relations campaign meant to undermine the Republican National Committee chairman, Michael Steele, by framing talk-radio personality Limbaugh as the real head of the Republican Party.

For now, Obama's back-pedal on the bipartisanship promise just makes him look insincere. But the real consequences of the mistake will be felt soon enough. As Presidents Bush and Clinton could tell him, congressional majorities do change -- and at some point, Obama will need Republicans on his side. He'd be smart to spend his second 100 days making up for the serious snubs of his first.

Bible Spice is the epitomy of narcisstic arrogance.

"Do what I say and not as I do," and all of that!

But your one simple sentence says it all and would make a great letter.

Oh, I'm sorry. It was "wrongly attributed" to Palin. Just like how a D "accidentally" appears next to the name of every senator/congressman that gets perp walked.

it now appears that Sarah DIDN'T write that, according to commenters at ProgressiveAlaska who note that the byline has been changed on the original article to a Meghan somebody-or-other. While a delusional piece, it seemed much too grammatically correct to be Ms. Sarah.

No incoherent run-on sentences. No non sequiturs. No rambling, irrelevant digressions. No slangy asides or stupid folksy expressions. The only thing that makes it sound like her is the whiny tone, and that could come from any republikan.

Edited on Sat Apr-25-09 11:43 PM by Proud Liberal Dem
This op-ed just reinforces the already well-established fact that Republicans truly are the masters of denial, projection, and hypocrisy of the highest order.
:eyes:

Obama needs Republicans just as much the rest of us need a total frontal lobotomy and I'm glad that Obama seems to have realized that (but I'm glad that he at least made an effort early on). *sigh* Oh well, he can't say he didn't try. If the Republicans just want to sit on the sidelines and piss and moan, say "no" to everything that Obama and the Democrats propose and refuse to put forward any positive alternative ideas for change, then Obama and the Democrats would do well for the rest of us to simply move forward without them using whatever legal means are available to do so. Rush, Beck, Palin, Gingrich, et. al won't break Obama's stride. In the end, the Republicans are simply going to find themselves "left behind" if they keep up with same old tired junk!

Edited on Sun Apr-26-09 12:03 AM by vixengrl
As I might say as an East Coast Liberal down here in the Lower Forty-Eight, what comes around goes around. What came around to the Republicans is what went around with them always drawing the line and building a wall between themselves and liberals. If they refuse to cooperate, how will bipartisanship flourish? If it can't, and he still needs to run this country, well, he will.

In the meanwhile--how is Sister Sarah handling her bailiwick? Not with a plethora (and that word does mean what I think it means) of ethics scandals that would short-circuit her career--are there? And a p.r. firm that decided her money ain't enough--hmm?

Time is relative. 2012 is farther away for some of us. It's light years away for Sister Sarah. It's thisclose for Obama.

If Sarah Palin were in the White House, she'd spend her time victory-dancing and changing her clothes. In contrast:

The first bill he signed into law was the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act -- a partisan hot-button that drew all of eight Republican supporters in the entire Congress. Then there was the swift reversal of Bush policies on abortion and embryonic-stem-cell research -- issues dear to the Republican base.

Women being paid like men are paid isn't about partisanship. Only in a world where one party actively tried to minimize and militate against women's rights--in the 21st century, mind you--is that an issue. It obviously should be the rule. As for abortion (and I am not, and no choice proponent is, all like "yay, abortion", but more like, "Yeah, power to women to determine their reproductive decisions. When they can make a family, to be able to to and when having one is unsuitable or even disastrous, have an out.) No, it isn't ideal. But it saves women's lives and the lives of the children they do already have. It can keep some people out of poverty--and may have to do until we become a more economically and socially just society--worldwide. I look forward to a day when no woman has to face this decision, because she had access to contraception, and because she financially and independently knows she can care for her child if that's her plan.It wouldn't happen in Palin-world, though, where miseducation regarding sexuality and economic insecurity would prevail. And don't even get me started on the stem cell issue--

I don't see her as a friend to science. She'd probably just be another weirdo fringe voice proclaiming that God made sure there was oil in Alaska so that people could drive in Hummers once the Brontosaurus was extinct. And she would mean it.

And then there is the AG fiasco of hers--the guy who said soooo many things--including telling AK lawmakers NOT TO WORRY IF what Palin had done was legal OR ILLEGAL when she ILLEGALLY put forth state Senate seat nominees' names after they were rejected already by AK lawmakers. Then he denied saying it...too bad it was on FUCKING AUDIO. Final nail..meet coffin.

And about that Alaska Fund Trust, governor..the one that has an agreement reading that you, your family, and colleagues can withdraw money for ANY reason, that the trust fund manager can NOT ask why you all want the money...someone needs to go thru THAT with a fine tooth comb and ask you about it's $etup.

She probably didn't write it. Mentioning Obama's successes of the SCHIP bill passing, Lilly Ledbetter fair-pay passing, embryonic stem cell research funding, and the passage of his stimulus bill, and calling them failures shows the insanity running through the Republican Party right now.

And that pathetic list from the NY Post includes urban legends and outright lies heard on Fox News.

In which case, their posting an editorial from Palin (no matter who really wrote it) is sort of
like Der Völkische Beobachter publishing an editorial by Göbbels. Predictable, expected, false,
and not exactly written for, or by, anyone interested in anything other than pure propaganda.

61. I'm surprised everybody here isn't picking up on the fact that Palin
is absolutely incapable of having written that, as I said above.

If you were an English teacher you would give that person a zero for having turned in someone else's work. Even allowing for the editing process, one's writing bears a resemblance to their diction and the level of their vocabulary when they speak.

"signature legislation", "swift reversal", "bipartisan accord", and my favorite..."gratuitous".

She's being dishonest for putting her name to something written, in total, by someone else. Put her in a room by herself with only a pen and paper and see if she can turn out writing of that quality.

Also there was a comprehensive approval poll taken last November that further erodes her position.

The Alaska Governor comes in with a scathing attack on Obama's failure to embrace Republicans in the New York Post's "100 Days, 100 Mistakes" broadside at Obama:

She is rapidly becoming totally irrelevant, except to the politically insane.

Every time she opens her piehole she is shortening her political career.

Nice to see this exposed as someone else's articleoriginally passed off as written by her, though. Keeps the entirely fake thing going for her.

'Palin' piece misattributed

The New York Post today published, and I linked, a slap at Obama's promises of bipartisanship attributed to Gov. Sarah Palin.

The only problem: Palin didn't write the article. Conservative writer Meghan Clyne did.

" The byline was a mistake. I mixed up an e-mail from Meghan Stapleton, who works for Palin, with Meghan Clyne. That's why it was corrected," emails Post Sunday editor Steve Lynch.

It's the sort of thing that happens, but seems to happen more to Palin.
