I can't believe that someone would be that stupid! - AF1 & NYC
Edited on Mon Apr-27-09 04:04 PM by rufus dog
It defies logic that someone who has the power to coordinate AF1 would have it fly around the Statue of Liberty on a Monday morning.

Option 1. - Photoshop
Option 2. - Notify public
Option 3. - Concerned about surface to air attack, then schedule for early Sunday morning.

Edit: To clarify, I really can't believe someone (actually a fairly large group of people) would be that stupid. There has to be something more to this story.

Director of the White House Military Office just apologized. I stand corrected, someone is that stupid.

2. no shit...
I actually saw the thing happen while down in Red Hook this morning at ten am. A bunch of people standing outside, worried, watching it until it went away. I was freaked out by it.

It looks like Bloomberg is pissed off now. He wasn't notified.

4. It wasn't Air Force 1
a plane is only Air Force One when the president is on it.

It was a plane that would commonly be used as Air Force 1.

6. I'm really glad I didn't see this
Any low flying plane over Manhattan gets my anxiety up and one being followed by an F-16 definitely would have had me running for the Xanax. What a stupid thing to do.

8. I live in Battery Park City
I was out for a run on the Esplanade when all this happened. No one among us - residents, Park Police, 2 NYPD officers - seemed to have any idea WTF was going on. A very scary 20 minutes or so, as the 747 and its F16 escort kept circling out over NJ, Staten Island, and back - from our perspective it looked like it was aiming right for our neighborhood and the World Financial Center. Happened three times in a row, and was occasionally VERY low - people on the upper floors of many of the buildings in BPC and the WFC would have been looking down on the action.

Fucking morons.
