New buzz phrase: checks and balances
Get ready to hear this ad nauseum.

Glen Bolger at Public Opinion Strategies has a must-read blog post.

Glen has polling numbers to back up this message: "Since Democrats have complete control of Congress and the Presidency, it would be good to have more checks and balances in Washington by electing more Republicans to Congress."

To give this number context, most surveys give Obama 60%+ approval, Dems an advantage on party ID, etc., etc. In other words, the numbers are so good for the Democrats that a 54% message for Republicans is something to really take a look at.

Some numbers underneath, including the key Indie number:

* GOP 89% agree
* Ind 55% agree
* Women 51% agree
* Young 52% agree
* Northeast 52%
* Suburban 57%
* Moderates 45% (plurality)
* Conservative Dems 30% (also give Obama 90% rating)

The problem is that while many are in favor of checks and balances, that doesn't mean they want these clowns doing it.

2. Checks and balances are a good thing..
But only if the opposition is a real party, which the GOP is not.

5. Oh, the irony
on checks and balances, they can't understand nor appreciate the concept. Read down one thread of whining neocons saying that only the courts can provide checks and balances, now. But, wait, wasn't that the court of "activist judges" that wouldn't let Bush* do what he wanted when he wanted and they wanted abolished?

They don't know whether to :hurts: or :hide: or :puke:

For me, it's :rofl:

9. Gee, whatever happened to the "permanent Republican majority"? Where were checks & balances then?
I love the smell of irony in the morning.
