Lieberman welcomes Specter to caucus
Posted: 02:12 PM ET

WASHINGTON (CNN) — Sen. Joe Lieberman applauded Arlen Specter's move to the Democratic caucus, saying he was pleased to be joined by "yet another independent minded Democrat."

"I enthusiastically welcome my good friend Arlen Specter into the Democratic caucus. It will be very good to have the company of yet another independent minded Democrat in the caucus!" he said in a statement.

"I have always admired Arlen as a man of deep principle who has been a bridge builder to get things done in the Senate. Arlen understands that we get things accomplished when we listen to the vital center of American politics. I know that Arlen will continue to make a major contribution to the Senate and the nation as an effective independent leader and problem solver."

1. I can't wait until 2010 when we can kick Lieberman out on his DLC McCain-lovin' ass.

4. Easy now...
They are our "turncoats" now. Their support - at least insofar as they help brush back repuglican filibustering - will be fundamental to getting the Democratic agenda leveraged through Congress and into law.

5. Perhaps.
Doesn't mean I have to stand them. I hate both of their guts. They both stand for nothing or than their own re-election bids.

6. Point taken.
It's obvious that - at the core - Specter made this decision to save his political hide. Nonetheless, if it benefits the greater good, i'm cool with it.

7. I just threw up in my mouth a little.
Two self-serving monuments to ego congratulating themselves for jumping off a sinking ship, neither one could give a care about anything except their own political agenda.

If principles needed water to survive, they would curl up and die in the furnace of political ambition are represented by these two's careers.

12. It obviously matters to you
You're the one that brought it up. I didn't notice Judaism or Israel being in the context of Lieberman's welcome....

11. Josh Shapiro
Who was going to run against the GOP candidate and won't be now is also Jewish. He is kind of fucked in this deal so I don't see what the heritage of the men have to do with it.
