How soon until Michael Steele is booted as the RNC Chair - this was his stupidity
Edited on Tue Apr-28-09 03:50 PM by LynneSin
Six years ago Pat Toomey ran against Arlen Specter with little 'support' from the RNC or RCSS and still he only lost by 2% of the vote. Pennsylvania may be turning a strong state for the democrats but when the vote is 'Republican Only' there are enough right wing crazies out there that can help put their own on the general election ballot. They can't win it but they can get the name on the ballot.

I remember that race, mind you I lived over 30 years in Pennsylvania and now live just south of the border in neighboring Delaware. I'm in the Philly metro news region so I got all the news about the Specter-Toomey Race.

Toomey is a clone of Rick Santorum - a seething right-wing fundamentalist that wants to run this country strictly by the bible even if perhaps he doesnt' live by it all the time. Toomey would be a great replacement after the Dems picked off Santorum back in 2006. Only one problem - Registered democrats in Pennsylvania are on a major upswing and the 5 counties of the Philly metro area (Philadelphia, Bucks, Chester, Delaware and Montgomery) aren't keen on rabid right-wing republicans. This region will vote for hometown boy Specter because he doesn't froth at the mouth of extremist right-wing ideologies but will send a democrat to office for just about any other major statewide race.

The thing with Toomey and the republican primaries is simple - Philadelphia region doesn't have enough republicans to make an impact on the rest of the state. I also do not believe you can cross-over in the vote, which means it would mostly be republicans voting for republicans. With the lack of Philadelphians out to support hometown favorite Arlen Specter in the primaries - Toomey suddenly looked like a winner.

Steele's stupidity was showing support for Toomey in the primaries. Even in 2004 when a prefered Toomey was running against Specter in the primaries - the RNC & RSCC and even Rick Santorum himself all endorsed Specter. They stuck with one of their own even though I suspect secretly they were hoping for the upset. Specter is a wildcard vote for republicans and Toomey would give them another to add their brood.

Steele & the RNC should have never EVER shown any favoritism for Toomey, it wasn't needed in order for Toomey to win. Because of this, Steele just alienated the one seat that kept the so-called Republican "Checks & Balances".

I have a feeling Michael Steele will be the next person to go ESPECIALLY if Franken gets seated (like he should).

11. Not to mention two big losses (NY20 and Spector) under his reign.
Stick a fork in him.

3. Can they boot him?
I thought I read somewhere that the RNC rules make it hard to unseat the Chair and that he would have to resign in order for the GOP to get rid of him. I don't waste time reading about RNC rules though so I never confirmed if this was true or not.

I hope Steele stays though. He's my favorite republican idiot. :D

6. There are always ways to make someone feel unwelcomed which
usually forces them to resign.

4. Did I just hear him say something like
"I know his mama didn't raise him like that"....talking about Spector? I think I heard that quote attributed to Steele a few minutes ago on CNN. If I am correct, they are going to boot his ass within the next few weeks.

7. Specter was raised a democrat - he was a part of the Dem party until the late 60s
so his mama did raise him that way

5. Michael Steele is actually a highly intelligent liberal Democrat
and this whole 'lets be a Republican idiot' thing is just a college prank that got out of hand and turned into a high playing gig.

At the appropriate time Steele will explain the prank, write a book and make millions from the movie.

Well this makes more sense than any other explanation for the idiocy known as Michael Steele.

13. Steele was trying to use RW talking points and screwed up...I actually think he is a Democrat
as well, but wanted to be Republican because he thought he could be a standout. But ended up standing out for the ignorant stuff he says. Steele is pro choice and he comes from Maryland...I mean that screams Democrat. Kinda like how Bloomberg is a republicant....

Unfortunately Steele can't ever be a Democrat now because he's shown himself to be too ignorant and willing to do the evil bidding of idiots just to keep his job. Plus he apologized to Rush.

15. No, he is not a democrat - not even close
I've seen this guy on Real Time and other talk show circuits. If you think he's a democrat then he's selling you a bill of goods. Probably why Ben Cardin easily won in the US Senate race back in 2006.

16. I remember during Rendell's first run for Governer we tried to get repubs to regist for the primary
Edited on Tue Apr-28-09 04:22 PM by LynneSin
But that was 2002. Rendell was popular with moderate republicans and we were trying to get the these republicans to register Dem for the primary and then switch back (if they wanted to) afterwards. In 2002, neither senate race was up for grabs so we figured people would be more willing to switch. But in 2010 you have a major governor's race and I'm sure it will be contested in the primaries.

Personally I wouldn't harm a hair on his head, and wouldn't want him anywhere else but where he is.

18. Maybe Steele will switch parties, too
As reactionary as the GOP has become, he's downright moderate.
