New Popular Vote in Washington Signed into Law
Will be interesting seeing how many other states sign onto this.

THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

OLYMPIA, Wash. -- Washington state will join a compact with other states to cast its presidential electoral votes for the national popular vote winner.

Gov. Chris Gregoire signed the bill Tuesday, but it doesn't take effect until enough states sign on to account for 270 electoral votes - the number it takes to win the White House. Washington has 11 electoral votes.

The compact has been ratified in Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland and New Jersey and is moving ahead in several other states.

The loser of the popular vote has won the Electoral College and become president four times, most recently in 2000, when George W. Bush defeated Al Gore.

2. So, this is a legitimate way to do away with the Electoral College once and for all?
If so, I'm all for it!

3. This is one of those things....
... that is so fundamental to our constituion, that even though it sucks sometimes, I'm not sure we should do away with.

But I was always a bit of a traditionalist. It's why I voted for this guy.....

... ha!

5. Waste of time.
Until we get rid of all the electro-fraud "voting" machines, it doesn't fucking matter. If the popular vote can't be documented, it's useless.

6. Notice only blue states are doing this
I don't see the point of this unless the entire country does this.

7. ...or, as the story says, ...
... states that make up 270 Electoral votes do it. Which is all it takes to make it effective.

8. I hate this idea
It's not fair unless everybody signs up for it.

9. I see this creating chaos if it ever happens
And it seems to be against the spirit of the law.
