2. He quit in disgust-- that was my take, too. I loved the spin: It's internal to Pennsylvania...
Yeah, right.

3. He clearly stated his reasons for switching parties.
He said he switched because he could not get re-elected in Pennsylvania as a Republican.

4. The entire press conference is well worth listening to. There's more depth than that one sentence.

5. Yes, he clearly stated his reasonS.
Implying more than one.

Here's another: the Republican Party has moved too far to the right.

6. It must not have been that clear! You clearly missed it.
Here's the critical portion:

"It has become clear to me that the stimulus vote caused a schism which makes our differences irreconcilable. On this state of the record, I am unwilling to have my twenty-nine year Senate record judged by the Pennsylvania Republican primary electorate. I have not represented the Republican Party. I have represented the people of Pennsylvania."

Only the most cynical reading of this pasage would draw from it the same self serving message you found.

Clearly (and I say this clearly, without the cloud of partisan bias), Spector pissed off the Republican party, and does not want to throw his career on the coals of right-wing partisanship that feed that bias that is the furnace of the Republican Primary. Spector is confident he can win the state, just not the Primary.

7. I see.
I'm self serving, but Specter changing parties because he can't get elected as a Republican isn't.

LOL.

That only goes to show that you can fool SOME of the people ALL of the time.

You can chose to judge by his time, circumstances, and explanation, or you can assume a bias and ignore all other evidence

Some reporter ask Obama about Spector and I didn't get hear it all but it sounded like he gave a good indication of the reality of the situation.
