3. That dog needs training
Actually, many trainers say that it's the owners who need training. That may be true here since the Obamas have never had a dog before.

6. The dog whisperer has offered his services if they want.
Don't know if he's actually been in touch with the WH, but he did say that on tv when Bo arrived. Looks like it might be a good idea.

11. I Have Two Chocolate Labs & From What I've Learned Over The Years Of
having many dogs... IT IS the owner who should always be the "teacher," if not things can get waaaaay out of hand!

My daughter has two golden retrievers who have been allowed a lot of leeway, but have had some training, but they still jump all over anyone who comes into their home. They are very friendly, but those big dogs have the capacity to knock you down. Then they constantly jump on you or lick you for about 30 minutes until they finally settle down. My daughter states that "it's their home" so they are allowed to do "some things!"

WE don't agree on this at all!!! But they are they're dogs. If you have a dog that "won't train" there is always obedience school, or a personal trainer! My dogs KNOW not to jump on people and have been taught since they were puppies that SIT means SIT!!

They also do tricks, just had to throw that in! My father taught me dog training when I was pretty young and I find it pretty easy to do. I will say that I have found that smaller dogs seem more difficult, but that may be my bias showing! I'm a BIG dog person!

GREAT PICTURE THOUGH... thanks for sharing!

8. I think it is. Laura Bush allowed C-Span to tour the WH in Dec and it looks
like the area she said they use for their private living quarters.

saying.

What an adorable picture! Bo is on a tear after Malia -- "where do you think you're going without me!!"

17. Yeah but with big puppies it takes quite a while
To get them to learn the limits. They just follow the scent, or the person, or whatever is 'over there' as an impulse because they don't understand danger and they don't get the ability to really learn something for a few months. Lots of repetition is necessary for them to 'get it'. Even Cesar Milan will tell you to take them for a run first to get them to settle down.
