I will be sad to see it happen. We will need to be viligent to keep our guys from becoming our guys in name only while they build an even greater corporatacracy for the wealthy and connected. We didn't beat them to become them.

A big test will be healthcare. I think healthcare is a passionate enough issue that people would leave their Lazy Boys over it.

1. It has been going on since the 90's
the lobbyists have hedged their bets for a long time now. If you look at top recipients for corporate funds, its almost evenly split between congressional reps and democrats. That is why I generally do not trust Congress.

2. I don't disagree with you that it has already been happening.
I'm just saying the floodgates will really open now.

3. Completely agree. We have to be ever vigilant
But I think democratic constituents seem to be more watchful and loudly critical just by our nature.

5. The dems were already receiving a large amount of money
from the lobbyists. In US politics its just a case of which industry you're getting the money from.

I think it reaches a point where you're either bought and paid for, or you've accepted donations but are still capable of independent thinking.

6. Just maybe
Isn't part of the lobbyist schtick to hold out the money and tell the congressperson 'if you don't take the money and do what we want we will give the money to your opposition or their party'. Well just maybe if the 'other party' is so out of favor the threat becomes ineffectual our guys and gals can just tell the lobbyists where they can put the money. Okay at least we can hope.
