Same as Bush???
One of the Cable chatter said that Obama's approval rate is the same as Bush had after his 100 days. Why? What had he done in those days, except choking on a pretzel and planning the plunder of the surplus that Clinton left him, no thanks to Reagan and papa?

1. That can't be right.
Bush II's approval ratings were mediocre, at best, until after 9-11.

7. That would not be statistically significant in any one poll, but the average
may be. The more polls you pool, the more the standard deviations come in and the greater your confidence intervals are. I would have to see what all of the MOEs and sample sizes are.

8. Guess my memory is faulty.
I absolutely loathed Bush after he was selected by the SCOTUS. Perhaps I was projecting.

3. Thanks to Clinton, we had peace and prosperity during Bush's first 100 days.
Everyone was feeling good back then.

4. Hardly.
Were you feeling good back then?

The country was in a recession, mind you, and the indicators had been showing a recession was imminent for the previous 6 months. There was the entire "SCOTUS selected" business and the moveon-ous ourtage.

Lots of people weren't feeling good. And yet, there you have it.

6. Bush got high marks because he didn't do anything extraordinarily good or bad
Obama gets high marks because of his *actions*

9. Bush had good marks because he didn't have many public appearances
the first nine months, IIRC. The less the public saw him, the better they thought of him. No reason for the buyers' remorse.
