Anonymous Blunt supporter: Missouri needs a male Senator for "balance"
Gender politics has a renewed focus in the open Missouri Senate race to succeed retiring Republican Sen. Christopher (Kit) Bond, in part because of last year's vice presidential candidacy of GOP Gov. Sarah Palin of Alaska.

The issue will first come into play in the developing GOP primary between former House Minority Whip Roy Blunt and former state Treasurer Sarah Steelman, who just launched an exploratory committee...

Some Republican strategists pointed out that Palin used gender but in a way that didn't resonate, as pocketbook issues superseded social ones in the 2008 race. Steelman, some say, is in a better position, as she has begun to develop a reputation as "Palin with an economics degree."

Such assessments rankle Steelman. "People don't scrutinize male Republicans who run for office like that," she said, suggesting a "different standard for women than for men."...

A Republican in Blunt's camp countered that with Democratic Sen. Claire McCaskill already in office, Missouri voters might be better served balancing that with a male.

1. I guess that means every other state with two male Senators needs
a woman for balance. Ain't that right, Mr. Blunt?

7. Blunt is trying to whip up some sort of controversy in order to get publicity
The sad thing is, it really doesn't matter if Steelman or Blunt gets the 'Pug nomination, because Robin Carnahan is going to hand either one of them their ass. Anything associated with the name Blunt is poison in this state after Roy's boy fucked things up so badly, and dear old Sarah is batshit crazy and nobody wants her in office.

Robin on the other hand has name positive name recognition, a solid record, and is an excellent campaigner.

10. Carnahan will kick Blunts fanny all over the place. Her father was a
very popular dem governor (I'm sure you know the story surrounding his death). Her brother Russ is a US Rep from the St Louis area. The state loves her.

14. So where was all the balance all the years MO had two male senators??
Other than Jean Carnahan (2001-2002), where were the female US Senators from Missouri before McCaskill?

My business partner and I were caught in that horrible storm October 17, 2000 that killed Mel Carnahan, but we were near Joplin on our way to KCI from SW MO. I was driving and couldn't see out of my windshield and was lucky I didn't hit anyone pulling off the freeway. Later that night we saw the news of the tragic plane crash. I would love to see Robin in the US Senate.
