Byron York steps in it big time

York: Obama is “Actually” Not So Popular, Because Some People Who Like Him Are Black

Byron York has identified an important problem in our system of measuring public opinion, just the sort of thing that inspired the noble Framers of our constitution to wisely implement the three fifths compromise:

On his 100th day in office, Barack Obama enjoys high job approval ratings, no matter what poll you consult. But if a new survey by the New York Times is accurate, the president and some of his policies are significantly less popular with white Americans than with black Americans, and his sky-high ratings among African-Americans make some of his positions appear a bit more popular overall than they actually are.

Dave Weigel observes that all Democratic politicians are always much more popular among blacks than among whites, so it’s not clear why York would spin this as a unique attribute of Obama’s. But more to the point, what is York talking about here? How does the fact that much of Obama’s support come from African-Americans mean that he’s not “actually” popular?

1. Thanks for that subject line-it is perfect. I hope this story gets legs. York,
who I've seen on PBS as an 'expert', deserves to get more than a few pegs cut out from under him for his views.

6. I guess Byron York doesn't think that black people are humans
and therefore their opinions don't really "count?"

:puke:

Get bent, fuckhead. And here's hoping for your upcoming unemployment.

Obama an A (percentage wise), they did it because of "pride".

Fucking unbelievable!

So I guess that when White People give White Presidents a grade, those should have been discounted too!

18. York is an ass
I sat next to him when Gore gave his seminal speech at DC's Constitution Hall, Dec 2006.
This was a combined left-right coalition of Constitutionalists. The crowd rose at least 10
times to cheer Gore. York and his coven from New Republic just sat there. My wife was
so irritated I thought she was going to reach across me and punch him. She'd have won in a TKO.

He's analytically challenged also but that story is too long.

This is typical MSM challenged logic but, in this case, there's the racist tinge. You're analysis
is right on target.

21. Hey Byron, guess what? Latinos, which make up a larger percentage than AA also have a skyhigh
approval of the President.

http://www.ipsos-na.com/news/pressrelease.cfm?id=4360

<snip>
In a recent Ipsos U.S. Hispanic Omnibus poll conducted by telephone among a nationally representative sample of 514 Hispanics aged 18 and older, 86% said that they approve of President Obama’s work in the White House (55% strongly approve and 23% somewhat approve). This compares favorably to a simultaneous Ipsos Public Affairs poll of 1,138 adults representative of the general U.S. population, in which 63% said that they approve of the president’s performance (35% strongly and 18% somewhat).

The difference between President Obama’s approval rating among Hispanics only and the U.S. population at large is almost identical when looking only at those who are registered voters: While 58% of registered voters of any ethnicity approve of the way Barack Obama is handling his job as president, 80% of Hispanic registered voters do so. Furthermore, President Obama enjoys majority approval ratings from Hispanics regardless of party affiliation.
<snip>

Choke on that, you twit!

23. "More popular than they actually are"....?
This doesn't make any sense unless you conclude that York considers blacks less than non-blacks.

What a load, he's race-baiting, the old divide and conquer strategy all over again.

Young Turks: Idiot Repub Genius Analysis on Black Vote
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=385x305343

The basic rebuttal goes something like this: let's turn that around, shithead, and consider (say) Bush's popularity -- if you ignored all the white people who voted for him, he never looked that popular

That is what he is basically saying. He may just as well have said that Chimp was actually more popular than he appeared because black people overwhelmingly disapproved of him. The whites were split and they are the only one who matter so Bush actually walked out with close to 50% approval.

This man comes off as a supremacist.
