GOP set to launch rebranding effort
http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2009/04/29/gop-set-to-launch-rebranding-effort/

WASHINGTON (CNN) - Coming soon to a battleground state near you: a new effort to revive the image of the Republican Party and to counter President Obama's characterization of Republicans as "the party of 'no.'"

CNN has learned that the new initiative, called the National Council for a New America, will be announced Thursday.

It will involve an outreach by an interesting mix of GOP officials, ranging from 2008 Republican presidential nominee John McCain to Jeb Bush, the former Florida governor and the younger brother of the man many Republicans blame for the party's battered brand: former President George W. Bush.

In addition to Sen. McCain and Gov. Bush, GOP sources familiar with the plans tell CNN others involved in the new group's "National Panel Of Experts" will include:

*Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour, a former national GOP chairman
*Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal
*Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney

1. A majority of Americans have caught on to the fact that Republicanism
really means (1) get more money for the rich and (2) make sure that they can keep it. All other aspects are minor bits of "window dressing". It's quite possible that Republicanism is on the verge of completely fading from the world of American politics.

3. I'm sorry, but this made me giggle (and that's not very polite). But
re-branding or re-defining a failed entity rather than rebuilding and repairing the entity itself is.... um... just, uh, dumb?

Their labels aren't their problem, the small-minded, limited, exclusionary, bigoted tenets they've made as their foundation are the problem. Not some revamped name, catch-phrase or motto they might come up with to try to sell a party that is still ugly and inept.

Repubs: Make useful/positive changes in the fundamentals of your party and THEN re-brand if it makes sense - "Republican" was not always a bad word (Lincoln is one example), but re-branding without changing those things that have led to the party's demise... well, enough said. If they can't figure this out then they own whatever happens. So far it's not at all pretty and there's no sign that's about to change.

It's sad, actually. Those representing the GOP today have done the party a huge disservice, whether you disagree with their original principles or not. They've distorted all of it into something so ugly and so harmful it's really a sorry thing. We rely on a 2-party system, but when one party has reverted into something more akin to a toddlers "terrible twos" with bigotry and moral judgments (HA! Are they KIDDING??) attached rather than an honorable, legit opposition - we all lose.

Get your act together, Republicans... then "re-brand" if you feel the need. This isn't Madison Avenue and you're not a product people want no matter how you package yourselves. So fix THAT. Re-legitimize yourselves. That would be useful...

4. In marketing, re-branding only works when you have a good product.
Re-branding the GOP will be a laughable effort.

In fact, it'll do more harm than good because they'll come off as being even phonier than they already are.

5. This is a reduction process.
Under Bush Lite, they were the party of DUH (three characters)
Now, they are the party of NO (two characters)
They are heading for the party of 0.

Then comes the split into G and OP.

The GOP divides into G (Gone) and OP (Overly Paranoid). They will split their vote accordingly.
