the first time in a Washington Post/ABC News poll, supporters of gay marriage outnumber opponents
For the first time in a Washington Post/ABC News poll, supporters of gay marriage outnumber opponents: 49% are in favor versus 46% opposed.

In addition, 53% believe gay marriages held legally in another state should be recognized as legal in their states.

However, a new Quinnipiac poll finds different results: American voters oppose 55% to 38% a law in their state allowing same-sex couples to marry, but support 57% to 38% allowing same-sex couples to form civil unions.

3. I wonder how many of those folks agreeing with civil unions know that their states outlawed them?
Numerous states now have constitutional amendments outlawing civil unions for gay people. This fact is overlooked by people all the time. The right-wing isn't just against "gay marriage." They're against any kind of human rights for gay people.

As the population ages, fewer and fewer people will hold to this bigoted belief, but how long will it take before the politicians catch up? Right now, President Obama is against equal rights for gay people, a position putting him at odds with a majority of Americans. Of all the people running for president in 2008, only one - Kucinich - supported equal rights for me and people like me.

Wake up, politicians. The train is leaving the station without you.
