We got us a President . . .
Edited on Sat Jun-06-09 09:33 AM by Empowerer

We got us a President who leads off a speech with "Salaam 'alaikum" and then shares what was once known as the "Black Power handshake" with the French leader.

We got us a President whose kingly bearing incorporates a sassy little hitch in his gitalong that the old folks used to call "dappin'."

We got us a President whose tall, beautiful, elegant, brown wife is absolutely rocking it on the red carpet in her creme-colored cloth and kinky-straight mane and making him - and all the rest of America - look like a billion more bucks because she belongs to him and he belongs to her . . . and - Lord have mercy! - they both belong to us.

We sure got us a President, don't we?

(Jackeens, I borrowed a couple of your photos - hope you don't mind!)

11. And...
That she and Carla are refusing to play into the media's attempts at starting a fashion cat-fight between the two of them (by dressing very similarly) says even more. And, I betcha she speaks to her French pal IN French!

looking at them you can tell from the body language they share some kind of passion besides their husbands being the Presidents of their respective country.

12. I can't help but think that Dr. King would have been so proud. I think
I started blubbering about 2 minutes into his D-Day speech, and blubbered until the end. It's not just his oratory skills, it's much more than that, and I can't quite put my finger on it. I've never been big on speeches, but everytime this man takes the stage, I'm glued to the teevee. Color me impressed.

13. I agree ~ his speech writers do their work but it is his style and
grace and skill at delivering a speech that makes him special.

Another thing I love is the way he can pop out a "big word" and make it flow so nicely.

Excellent role model for all of us --- he is masterful with the English language in my opinion.

was choked up, and that set me off again. According to Pat, Reagan couldn't have done it any better.

47. Pat Buchannan - and his "military service" (lack of) issue Pfffft!
<snip>
He received his draft notice in 1960, but was excused from military service because he had Reiter's syndrome, a form of reactive arthritis usually triggered by venereal diseases.

Edited on Sat Jun-06-09 11:41 AM by ClarkUSA
As Jpn Favreau has said, "He's his own top speech writer, not me." Lest we forget, he wrote his 2004 Convention speech and that race speech by himself.

17. We got us a President who even my racist old Dad
thinks is amazing. The old guy got TEARS in his eyes listening to the Cairo speech! My old white Dad, who this time last year didn't think America was "ready for a Black president"! He was so proud to be represented by Obama instead of Bush.

What a day.

fall off my chair today when I heard Pat Buchanan say that the president's Normandy speech left him very emotional & unable to speak. Pat was visibly choked up, and they don't come much older & more racist than Pat Buchanan. Good on your Dad.

....quite believe that this man really is our president. Really? President of the U.S.? Honestly? For four whole years at least? Maybe eight? :woohoo:

I don't know what we did to deserve him, but I feel like we're the envy of the world once again. And like someone who scored a date with the smartest, coolest, prom queen or king, I am so damn proud.

Yeah. Uh-huh. :smoke: That's right. He's OUR president! And that's his wife! Our First Lady (And they're Democrats! :headbang: )

35. I'm sorry. I can't buy into this.
I do not want a fashion show where even the sneakers cost $540.

I do not want a king. The adjective "kingly" scares me.

I do not want anyone treating the Obamas like the British treat their royalty.

We have no royalty. We abhor royalty by its very concept.

We are not subjects. We are the free citizens of a republic.

Citizens want a public servant beholden to them, not a king.

By the way, two-thirds of the citizens you're worried about are quite pleased with out president. Obviously, you are not, but you're part of a distinct minority (made up mostly of disgruntled Republicans).

I'm thrilled to be a part of the two-thirds!

41. I am pleased with most of his performance
Performance is what I care about.

This elevation to the status of royalty and everybody fawning over what the Mrs. is wearing (usually costing more than my monthly income) disgusts me.

I don't want royalty. I don't want a demagogue. I don't want a Hollywood fashion show. I don't want people drooling over them, fawning over their every move, over every accessory of her outfit. I don't want someone who is so popular it might get to his head. I don't want a populace that forgets he is their servant.

I want a President doing his job for four years, eight years if we like how he did the first four. That is it.

They are a millstone around the neck of those of us that
"want a public servant beholden to them" and serve to guarantee
the preservation of the status quo.

and Michelle Obama is by the far the more beautiful of the two women. Hands down. Michelle Obama has a glow and a simplicity. She is just so much more attractive than Sarkozi's wife and that is saying something. At least this is from another woman's point of view.
