Obama's job rating up; Politico says "down"
Edited on Mon Jun-08-09 04:02 PM by AlexanderProgressive
Look at this headline in the "Politico" website:

POTUS job rating down

The article then goes on to report on findings of a new USA Today/Gallup poll, in which Obama's job approval actually WENT UP from 58% in the next most recent USA Today/Gallup poll, to 61% now, as you can confirm by visiting the following website: http://pollingreport.com/obama_job.htm
. Not only did his approval go up, but his disapproval went down by 1% (from 35% in early May to 34% now).

Obama's job rating in regard to his handling of the economy went down 4%, but the misleading headline does not specify that it refers to the economy.

As you know, the job of a President comprises the economy, foreign policy, social issues, the environment, etc.

The headline falsely gives the impression that Obama's OVERALL job rating has gone down, when in fact this is not the case.

The piece was written by Carol E. Lee, for whom no email or contact page appears to exist. If one of you comes across her contact info, please post it here.

2. And even the bad numbers are good....
..... those polled are not generally in favor of government spending .... that's been the case for years. But they still like him IN SPITE of this.

Sometimes I wish I could bottle him and sell it.

7. Politicons can fiddle with the numbers only to a degree...
And Obama's numbers are so good, even fudging them can't take them down into "bad" territory.

This is hilarious, and pathetic, and righteous all in one fell swoop!

Politico is one of those sites I'd just as soon not hear from... except for comic relief like this:)

8. Here's a much better headline from CQpolitics
Edited on Mon Jun-08-09 04:39 PM by AlexanderProgressive
"Obama’s Approval Rating Steady, Except on the Deficit"

http://www.cqpolitics.com/wmspage.cfm?docid=news-000003136867

Now THAT is journalism. And that is an article that covers the same Gallup poll Politico is covering.

10. The Repubs were all excited a couple days ago about some Rasmussen polling numbers
Rasmussen has a President Obama job approval index that compares strongly approve to strongly disapprove and 4 days ago that index was zero for the first time evah! So the goofy desperate right-wingnuts were beside themselves thinking this was a major turning point and America was finally coming to its senses. Well since then the index has risen every day and is now +7.

11. I don't trust Rasmussen
Even if he pushes the numbers up temporarily, his ultimate goal is to pretend that Obama's approval is worse than it actually is.

Rasmussen is a right-winger activist pollster.

13. Yeah, I don't fully trust him either, however he has been fairly accurate in the past.
This goofy index is a bit of trick and tends to exaggerate the negative. Of course there are quite a few folks who strongly disapprove of Prez Obama -- always have, always will. These are basically the same idiots that supported Bush to the bitter end. And considering the state of affairs the number of folks who strongly approve is down a bit. The better poll is Gallup -- "approve or disapprove". They have had Obama >60+ approve and about 20-30% disapprove ever since the inaguration.

16. He's only accurate in election polls, because there's a way to verify the accuracy
In approval polls, Rasmussen can pretend Obama's approval is 2% and yet not be held accountable, because there are no elections or referendums that will determine whether it was true or not that his approval was 2%.

This is why we can't use Rasmussen's election polling accuracy as a barometer when judging non-election polls. Rasmussen cannot afford to publish crappy election polls, because of the scrutiny brought by election results.

Rasmussen has Sotomayor's approval, for example, at a net 5%, while other pollsters have this net approval (positive - negative) at 20%.

We will never know what the real support for Sotomayor's nomination is unless a referendum is made on the subject.
