Mitchell says Arab states must make peace with Israel
THURSDAY 11 JUNE 2009

US envoy George Mitchell says that Arab states must take "meaningful steps" to make peace with Israel after talks with Egypt's Foreign Minister Ahmed Abul Gheit. Israel must, said Gheit, take its own steps first, such as ending Jewish settlements.

1. Oh so George Mitchell says that

only the Arabs must take steps for a peace solution, from reading this article one gets the impression that the Arabs changed their minds or something about the 2002 peace initiative interesting, I am sure Israel would have accepted it with open arms if only they'd been given the chance, right?

2. They have taken meaningful steps

They offered a plan. Total recognition, trade agreements, even help in defending Israel from extemists. All Israel has to do is return to its legal borders.

Everyone's still waiting for Israel to say boo about this, of course.

Apparently the only "meaningful steps" an Arab can make is to give complete and unconditional surrender?
