Oh...my...god...they're gonna pull a switcheroo on us!
Edited on Mon Sep-20-04 05:54 PM by Atman
(On edit...someone kicked the long thread on Novak's column while I was typing this...still, one one addressed this strategy there, I think, so here it is.)

Kerry came out today and said it would take him four years to get out.

Kerry came out today and said he would call in more men and women from more nations to stay and fight it out.

In short, Kerry called for a continuation of the war.

On the same day the republican "Douche-bag Of Liberty" reported in the Sun-Times that Bush is likely to pull all troops out sooner rather than later. Kids, we've been hoodwinked...by weeks' end, voting for Kerry will mean voting FOR war in Iraq, and voting for Bush will be your choice to end it. Watch out. These people are clever, crafty...

...and very evil. Just because you find something unconscionable, doesn't Bush/Rove do; the have no conscience to begin with.

Vote for HOPE, NOT FEAR!

10. Is YOUR sky falling?
I don't think the sky is falling, and never implied any such thing. I am pointing out a very clever strategy that is not beyond comprehension given the players, and offering up for discussion. No where in my post did I say I think Kerry will lose or is about to lose because of this. Period.

Now, do you have any comments about the possibility of the scenerio I presented? Or are you just going to focus on the proportional spacing and typeface?

2. Nixon pulled that same crap in '72!
Vote for me, and I'll end the war.

Sadly, it worked.

9. I remember that
I remember going with my parents on literature drops as a kid. One pamphlet had a picture of Nixon with the words "What's his secret?" It still haunts me.
Wouldn't give any details on how he would end the war- just made empty promises.

3. EXCEPT that Bush is LYING about what he'll do, as usual. Or probably is.
Kerry is telling us exactly what he will do and I believe him.

20. Of course he's lying, but if sheeple believe it
and put that in the form of a VOTE, then it's too late.

Why anyone on the face of Gods' green earth would BELIEVE him, well, that's another kettle of fish.

4. I knew while everyone was out screaming for a plan
from Kerry, when he does announce it, then the Repubs would find a strategy to defeat it. All they think about is winning and not about the people of this country. Disgusting. I truly feel like :puke:

15. BINGO...
We discussed this tactic several days ago. Whatever Kerry revealed in terms of his policy in recent weeks....bushco adopted as it's own. That does NOT mean that Bushco intends to follow through with this "adopted policy" or that the stolen policy is the same as Kerry's. It's simply a tactic to make his side seem like it's listening to the people and to the pulse of the nation.

In part, I think this is why Kerry kept his ideas close to his vest for so long. I believe Kerry knew, at least in part, how Rovians tick and didn't want to show all his "cards" all at once. My opinion.

17. yeah, he's sneaky that way
He stole stuff from McCain (like "reformer with results"), and he stole from Gore's platform too -- he's like a little hermit crab that scuttles around insinuating himself into temporary homes all the time. I think you're onto something about Kerry's suspicions -- not only would Bush grab anything that seemed to please the electorate, but he'd try to make it look like Kerry was stealing from HIM! Kerry's certainly had a chance to observe how Bush and his ilk work, so I hope he's ready to counteract that.

5. Oh please...
Bush would never admit, before the election, that he was going to pull out the troops-- that would ruin his macho image.

6. That would be the smartest thing * could do for our side.
It would expose him as a failure yet again.

He couldn't cut it in the TANG so he bailed out. He couldn't cut it as an oilman in Texas so his poppy bailed him out of it. He couldn't cut it as a baseball team owner (remember Sammy Sosa) so he fucked the people of Houston over and had his poppy's friends bail him out.

Now he's showing that he's a catastrophic failure in Iraq, so he's going to bail out on that one, too.

8. Nobody is going to pull the troops out sooner than later.
Many people even against the war realize what we've done and how it is our responsibility to repair the damage we've done at least. The ones who support the war would immediately backlash at Bush for saying something like that. We would look far worse in eyes from afar if we just up and pulled out and let things go after we demolished the place.

11. He can't pull the troops out next year.
The place is a disaster zone. There's no way we can leave Iraq in the situation/condition it's in and people with BRAINS know that.

12. It's Baghdad Bush's MO - Start a fight and if it turns bad run and hide.
Run and hide behind mamma's skirt. This frigging imbecile has failed at everything he has tried in his life. God I wish he would have been born to a regular American family. He would have had his ass kicked every time he turned around.

13. the October surprise : I have a plan to end the war in Iraq
It's so annoying that the Kerry campaign is always playing catch-up. When DU minds can see this stuff coming miles away, why can't those nincompoops in the national campaign?

16. They are on record with "stay the course."
Setting a timetable of a year when the casualty rates are at an all time high would be a blatant play for votes that I have to think would be punished as such.

I haven't read the Novak thing yet, but pulling out of Iraq now would be insane, and would destroy the Republicans. Iraq would be a failed state full of terrorists, much like Afghanistan, and someone would have to go back and clean up the mess. Then who would be the soft on terror party?

Novak is an old, bow-legged whore. Anything he says or does has one aim: to advance Republican interests. This sounds like disinformation to me.

19. I warned against such an event...
...two days ago on DU. I said that Kerry must protect himself against triangulation on this.

McCain and other GOPers are stirring the water, trying to take away the issue for Kerry.

It's a trap. Trap. Trap.
