I got called by the Maine Democratic Committee today
I was asked:

What my main issues were for the upcoming election: 1) election reform, 2) the war, 3) health care, 4) vouchers for high school graduates to use for their post secondary education or training of choice. I had to stop there, though, as she said that was more than enough.

I was also asked who I am supporting in the upcoming elections, so I said Kerry and the Democratic candidates at the federal level and the Greens at the state and local level because it's an emergency and we have to get * out.

Out of curiosity, do they only call non-Dems or do they do a random sample?

1. Calling Dems, Unenrolled, and Greens
Did they say "this was authorized by the Maine Democratic party"?

I didn't know we were calling for issues, though.

Do you live in a city?

3. No, I live in a tiny town which is why
I declined the lady's offer of an absentee ballot. We use pencil and papers at the polls and I have every confidence in the folks who tally the votes here in town, regardless of their political affiliation.

I can't recall, though, if she said it was authorized, but I definitely heard the words Dem. Committee.

5. If you vote absentee you'll get fewer calls
Once the party knows your vote is "in the box" they'll cross you off the list and not bother you.

I always enjoy going to the polls though. It's a social event in these small towns. :)

2. It's been my experience
when I have phone polled for Kerry that they call independents and moderate republicans. Your mileage may vary. That might just be in the area that I have volunteered in.

4. When we phone poll for K/E here in Western PA
